SLP Stage III issue?? update: bad piston rings?

I've been watching this thread since the first post.
Your dealer is awesome.

Good stuff.

At what point does the sled qualify under the lemon law?

Okl I read your entire post and I had a very simialr issue with my 2012 only difference between mine and yours is that it was fouling both cylinders or rather way and I mean way over fuleing. What we discovered is that the plugs wires were on the wrong hole compared to the wiring schematics. My dealer was riding with me and suggested I look at this i did and then compared to his and mine were switched. The coil with the white plug in should go to the mag cylinder and mine was opposite we switched and rode another 100 plus miles on or trip with no more problems. My plug wires came from hte factory this way and wouyld start and idle fine and even ran fine for the first 10 or so miles. I know this is a simple thing to do and maybe you checked it already but didnt read it any where on any of the posts so thought i would share my experience with you. Good luck

Don't think i have a lemon, pretty sure it is just one issue. Just having a really tough time pin pointing the one issue...Did put over a 1000 miles on it last year.

Hmmm...Very interesting...hard to believe it could be something so simple with all we have been through, but possible. I personally did not try switching the wires, not sure if the dealer has? The tech actually did have BOTH plugs foul when it crapped out this last time. I will give him a call and tell him about your suggestion, but will have to wait until Monday when they are open again. Thanks!!!

I thought the same thing how could something so simple cause my problem but I am certain that it was the culprit on my sled good luck hope it is just this simple.

I think the lemon law went bye-bye when the Stage 3 kit was installed.

Pretty sure we have no lemon law in Alberta. Would have been applicable when I owned the POS 08 Dragon!!! This is not a lemon law case, even if we had such a law...

I have 2012 Pro with the same stage III kit, it was doing some of the same things when new, took it back to the dealer and they checked and found about a 15% ethenol in the fuel. Suggested I use non ehtenol fuel or add about a gallon of higher octane (110)fuel to my mix. Since then I have had no problems, run like crazy hold 8200 rpm when climbing in deep snow.

wish things went this smooth in the cat side of the forum....hats off to you guys for restoring my faith in SW.:tea:.... and dragon good luck getting it running. did the new TPS show up yet???

Just got off the phone with Dustin from SLP. Very knowledgeable guy. He is going to hook up with my dealer and work with them to resolve the problem. Very much appreciate the extra help! Thanks Dustin!:face-icon-small-coo

It is great to see a customer give credit to a company that does go above and beyond to back up their product(s).

SLP has always gone out of their way to make sure that their stuff did what I wanted it to do and more.

Maybe you could give a shout out for your dealer when they get things fixed for ya. Sounds like they are really stepping up to take care of you. Customer service like that is worth paying extra for.

Thanks Pro1, but don't expect fuel quality is the issue, unless Shell changed their formula. I have used nothing but shell V power premium since the sled was new. Tank was drained over the summer, filled with fresh Shell premium first time out this season. If shell started using ethanol in their premium, somebody please speak up...

Friend has a 12 Pro 163 Snowcheck
He had a few problems and all came down to a bad TPS sensor.
Sled has around 100 miles on it and it was just replaced and all seems ok.

Around 50 miles sled started idling really high or low, stumbling and lights flashing, no reverse. Dealer said loose TPS/fixed.

Sled idled fine and drove on trailer fine, Next trip, started dying, rough idle, lights flashing, no reverse. Limped back 10 miles to cabin.

Returned to same dealer, TPS replaced..Seems ok now.

Time will tell...

Yes TPS is in. Phoned tech this morning, has sled back together and running. Not enough snow there to take it out and put some good miles on it. He is periodically firing it up and running it around their yard. Doing what he can under the circumstances.

I told him about "minecat's" experience with the plug wires being backwards. He is going to check this out. As far as he knew, the wire configuration should not be an issue, but possible. He explained the voltage system and firing (don't remember exactly what he said, so not going to try and explain myself), and didn't think it should matter, but was definitely going to look more into it. I am working until Thursday, so if the sled is still running around their yard by then, will probably go pick it up and see if I can get some miles on it. Snow forecasted here for later this week, so hopefully conditions will be favourable for some good testing...

I do not know about Shell fuel but when a station starts ethanol fuel in a tank they will drain it to get everything out of it....mostly the water that can settle in the bottom of a gas tank...my understanding is ethanol will absorb all the water in the tank where non ethanol will not. So they clean out the tanks before they convert to ethanol as there can be quite a bit of water. They should have to post it if they did switch but it may be worth looking into or asking the station. You can get a kit and test the fuel yourself.

Sorry...Reading your post again I can see you probably mean you sled tank being empty. Still might be worth checking at the station tho...many are goint to etanol blend...

Wow! Still broken!!!

Just talked to my tech. Would you guys believe that my sled crapped out again??? Just a few miles on it, periodically running it around their yard. Just the PTO side plug fouled this time. Getting way too much fuel. They have been on the phone with Poo, trying this, that and everything else...They have replaced just about every component on the sled...Believe the only things left to change out are the complete harness and stator. I know they are getting quite frustrated...tech says that he believes they are up to 28 hrs labour invested in my machine so far, and this does not include test riding...Suspect it will be at least another week before I get any more substantial feedback. Not much snow, and still have their demo, so life could be worse!:fish2:

did they ever put it completely back to stock and see how it performed again? maybe a haywire PCV over fueling?

Didn't pull pipe/can or clutch kit, but switched out everything else. Tried a different PCV, etc. Said they did everything necessary to prove out that the issue was not related to the kit. Pretty certain, they would have ruled this out very early in the troubleshooting process.
