SLP Pipe Questions

I recently purchased a used SLP pipe and can, and am wondering about the clamps for the heat shield. It looks like from the pics on SLP website, that there are 3 clamps, but I only have two installed. Do I need all 3? The other question is, how tight do the clamps need to be? Mine were pretty loose. Not sure if there needs to be room for expansion or not. Thanks in advance for the help :face-icon-small-hap

Thanks. I went ahead and added a 3rd and tightened them pretty tight. Hopefully that's the way they need to be.

There is a thin layer of insulation between the heat shield and the pipe. 3 clamps should be there and SLPs replacement instructions say to check the clamps for tightness after the first couple of rides.

Not all of the Pro pipes utilize three clamps. The 800 uses three clamps where the 600 only uses two. Do you have a 600 or an 800?

It's an 800, but after looking at it closer, it looked like it had a 3rd clamp on it. What happens if they aren't all exact? The heat shield looks a little goofed up, like maybe it was run without it, or uninstalled at some point. I'm just worried It won't run the way it's supposed to if something is off. If not, I won't worry about it anymore :face-icon-small-hap

The way the heat shield fits has little to no effect on pipe performance as long as it is installed and functional. However, it should not rattle.....as long as the three clamps are securing it tight, you should be fine.

Just wondering if you have any pictures... Do the heat shields touch each other or is there a gap between them...

thanks

No pics, but there are small gaps maybe 1/4" to 3/8" gaps on both sides.
