thinking about putting the pipe on my 09 m-8 got slp intake kit already and wondered if there pipe is worth the money for the power increase.

thanks

I ride 5500 and up so dont think i would need a programmer

no you dont need a programmer, and yes it is worth it, go for it! BTW how do you like your intake?

You'll have to watch that pipe if you have the slp intake (the one that uses the stock plenium), the pipe gets hot. The pipe package works awesome, you won't need the controller for that package but you may want it anyways can't hurt.

thanks guys, I was hoping the pipe worked good. Be getting it before fall. The intake seemed to clean up any low end bog my sled had stock. So i think its worth it

how about clutching? stock or did you follow slp setup?

thanks again

I did the slp porting, slp pipe, power commander III, and had slp set up both primary and secondary clutch and the thing just rips.

I rode mine last season with the SLP pipe only and the sled worked great. For the coming season, I will be setup just like Iluvtofly with the performance edition package in addition to the pipe.

I'm excited to think about riding my sled after the enhancements. :beer;

I would like to do that setup also, But bought a new raft and dirtbike this summer, Moneys a little tight. Thats why i thought there peipe now and already have there intake. Then next year i can rip it down and go all the way.

thanks everyone

what has everyone done for clutching? not a fan of the mtx weights. any suggestions? stock weight different spring? diffrent brand weights?

any other suggestions

anyone have suggestions on the clutching with the pipe. Im not a big fan of the mtx weights? different spring maybe, or different brand of weights? should run about the same RPMs as stock correct? and other suggestions?

thanks

I bought a used set of the Cutler adjustable weights. I haven't read where anyone that used them didin't like them and it's one set of weights that can be adjusted for any changes you do to your sled.

Now, I sent my primary to SLP for balancing and went ahead and had them shim the clutch and add their MTX weights while they were at it. I will try the MTX weights and if they aren't the cat's pajamas, then I'll put the Cutlers in and go from there.

It looks like 8000-to 8100 RPM will be your new RPM target.

I changed my primary spring at the end of last season but never tried it because the snow went quickly. Now I have the SLP primary spring and I guess I'll give that a shot too.

I run the complete pipe set up. With V- force and I've been doing my own airboxes for years. I also run the Dalton adjustable weights, they are supposed to be just like the cutlers. They work nice too. Easy to use.
No controller. My sled rips! Purrfect RPM all the time. 5000' and up.
I'm sure I could fine tune my clutching for a bit better back shift but I'm not screwing around with it when it runs this good.:beer;
I've done the performance edition on a couple of my sleds too. Carb sleds not EFI and they always rip. I didn't want to run a controller so I havn't did the porting on this sled. Maybe next year.
I've been a SLP believer for 9 years now. I won't use anybody else! That is based on 9 years of excellent products and technical advice.
The only problem I've ever had with one of there products was this year, my Y pipe cracked at the weld first ride out. Told them about it, sent in my damged one had a new one right away. 1000 miles and no problems.

I ran just the can last year, I finished adding the pipe and y yesterday.

I ride 9k to 13k ish I am planning on running the stock 68's and go from there. I think cat makes a 71 which would be about right if its running to high (RPM). I am putting in a shift assist and rollers

I have another riding buddy who has a 08 set up with the MTX weights. He has had some belt troubles, and to be honest the MTX weights dont seem very user friendly for all the work needed to use them. If i have to change something, it will be cutlers or stock cat weights

a few pointers from my install

1. buy more heat tape (For hood !)
2. buy a 6mm allen wrench to cut down for the y-pipe bolts
3. I used heat sleaves to cover the injector wires, throttle cable, pipe temp sensor and exhust cables ( see http://www.designengineering.com/products.asp?m=sp&pid=37)
4. VENTS !
5. See # 4
6. VENTS!

I am excited to run it ! good luck

thanks everyone. I might start with the stock clutching and go from there, Thanks rprecision that heat sleeve is a good idea.

I put a slp pipe and airbox on my 09 m8 153 last year and this is what I tried for clutching

First run stock springs 71g cat weights not enough rpm
second run stiffer primary spring 150/330 left everything else still not enough
third left the springs alone and went to 68grm weights and added shift asst
4th went to a 140/340 primary spring with 68 grm weights 8000 on the trail but only 7850 in a climb

So I ended up with the 150/330 primary spring 65grm cat weights stock sec orange/white spring with shift asst. 8000 in a climb and 8200 on the trail drag race back to the lodge this was at 8-10,000 feet and I'm a bigger guy 6'1 240

The SLP pipe on the M 8 works! makes a huge difference. It is the best bang for the buck IMO. Great products and always great service from SLP

If your going to add the full package later I'd buy egts and run them stock get some number and then go from there, you don't have to but when you have them you can see the change with extra mods, and sometime performance changes with temp. and elevation. Not something you really need just makes it easy for tuning and if your picky about optimum performance a must, just my opinion though. I know many poeple running the full slp pipe and love it.

thanks everyone, seems everyone has different setups that works good for them. Ill have to figure out what i want to try

Cuzzin, John Dee's 09 ran awesome. Both out in Tog, and in da yoop. No box on his. He has the pipe,can, vforce reeds, and airbox. The thing just rips.:beer;
