SLP or Diamond S

What is considered an updated pipe, just the extra band or the band and the weld tying the pipe to doubler to bung?

looking for suggestions.

Should I go for a full SLP pipe and can or just a Diamond S can.

looking for the best bang for the buck.

I like the substantial weight drop with the diamond s can, but like the performance gains of the slp combo.

SLP looks to be about $120 more before clutching

I will probably go turbo next year, so would be selling which ever i choose

thanks

I did both last year. I am now running the SLP pipe into a Diamond S can. The sled works great with just the can and you do get a lot of weight loss. However, the system with the pipe and can really works good and you lose a little more weight too. I have the Carl's helix running stock springs and 66 Belly Busters. I like it a lot. The helix can be run in two different settings too. I have tried it in the steeper ramp. I will run the other ramp this year. It is a little snappier in that ramp and pulls higher rpm.

What elevation are you at, and what rpms are you pulling?

SLP pipe and silencer updates

Hey guys, I have been reading your thread and thought I might chime in to help answer some of your questions on the pipe:

We made a change to our Axys pipe at the end of December after some customers experienced cracking around the EGT bung. At that time the changes to the pipe involved a "y" shaped weld around the EGT bung plate. We also added a second band to help isolate harmonics and improve pipe life. Since the change to that design, I have only seen one pipe fail.

Through the snow season last year, we continued testing some other ideas for further improving durability. We put in countless hours and miles testing different options to make sure that what we came out with is the best solution and have since implemented it on the pipes we are now selling.

On our current production pipes, there are 2 new weld tie-ins, a new bung location and a new band location (see attached photo).

To guarantee proper performance of our pipe, I would recommend using an SLP brand silencer. I am well aware that many riders are using other brand mufflers with our pipe, but the only one I can promise to work is ours.

As mentioned previously we are now building a silencer with an integrated cooker mount too. And we are also now offering 3 different color options for the ceramic coating we use on our pipes and silencers: Black Satin, Silver Satin and Silver Polish.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

hi all 1st post ever!! hope this works. my ? is that I have read not just slp pipes but most pipes 4 the 2016 axis 800 have hade a tendency to get hot and hit det.. after a handful of long hard runs up the hill...have u found this 2 b true? if so is it just a madder of adding some vents \extra air flow under the hood? I like slp pipes (only pipes I have owned were slp or cpi )but I'm open 2 what ever set seem 2 complement the motor and not compromise it. I ride the mountains and have ran twin pipes and found they burn pistons a lot more frequently when held WOT for long periods so the power gain just is not worth pain! if any one has any thoughts about other pipes on the 800 ho motors I would pumped to hear them !!! thanks

This has been an issue, even on the old Pros, but most of those were related to an aftermarket silencer.

I put 1100 miles on an SLP pipe and a friend did 1200 last year on our Axys. I had 2 rides where I hit the DET sensor on a LONG, wot pull. same hill, 2 times in a row, switch to ETH mode and made it out. Figured out the fuel I was buying was not 91 octane but instead was 89 octane. Both were non-eth fuel but that drop in octane was the issue. Switched to a different gas station and never had another issue. Thats running the sled in Premium fuel mode, 8,000ft and above.
I'll be running the SLP pipe and can on my 17 again this year. Works very well. Eric

thanks eric my understanding of the newer sleds is just stating.im used 2 porting , smacking a pipe on, a hi flow intake and some jets in the old carbs....if N-E-1 remembers what those are ...then adding weight 2 the primary 2 get the RPMs back down!! so I live in Alaska I start riding at about 3000 ft top at around 10000 give or take would the lower elevation need a higher octane? was thinking about running RK TEK heads and pistons whith the pipes...u think that would caus problems? I just don't understand all the electronics..det sensors fule maping programmers just don't want to get to deep in2 s#i* that I don't understand yet...loved it when a 2stroke was simple but cant complain about the horsepower they are putting out!!!thanks 4 the help.

Do I remember jets.... Ah yep, and porting, reeds, boost tubes, billet heads, and then top it off with a 45hp shot of N20. And then burn a piston 2-3 times a year if you got bad gas or the temps dropped 30* when you where out riding.

Dont miss those days at all. I do think that big of swing in riding conditions may present a challenge. These sleds do have 2 fuel mode, Ethanol and Non-Ethanol.... That does give you a little adjustment, Ethanol mode is going to give you about 5% more fuel. The SLP pipe kit does come with a resistor to install into your EGT sensor that tricks the computer into adding more fuel at higher RPM.

There is some good tech info in the Alaska riding forum. I know several guys running slp pipes on axys's in alaska. I would check there.

I dont think adding a head and pistons would be a good choice for you. Eric

Eric, so you plug the resistor into the EGT and leave it in there at all times. then based on availability of fuel, I can change fuel setting (ethanol or non ethanol) on the gauge cluster correct?

thanks

Kind of. If you ride low elevation, they want you to use the resistor for the EGT. I think they say under 4,000 ft you should run it. Some guys had problems running the resistor due to poor quality construction, they may have fixed that. As for the fuel, yes you can change it with the cluster. Just make sure that you are actually running non-eth 91 fuel, then when you switch to Eth Mode with the cluster it adds a little extra fuel.

Some guys wired in the resistor with a switch so they could flip it on down low and then flip it off once they got higher up. I never ride below 7,000ft so I never messed with the resistor at all. Eric

No worries! We've got lots of guys in your same boat. Fuel injection is not a bad thing. Just think of it as a carburetor you don't have to mess with when the temp/elevation changes...

I think Eric is right about what you ought to do with your Sled. The stage 2 (pipe set and clutching) is where I would go based on what you want to do. And yes, the Axys will RIP with the pipe set on it.

Where are you at in AK? If you are anywhere near anchorage and you want some good feedback from an Alaskan Dealer that is familiar with our pipe, you can talk to Chad at Attention 2 Detail (907)306-3062. I know he has run our pipe a lot last year.

Never hit det with my slp pipe. Several long hard pulls in heavy deep spring snow and it worked flawlessly. I ride with several other guys who have the SLP pipe and they never had a det code all winter. They are hard core riders who make long steep pulls all of the time. SLP is great. No fuel controller and I run mine in the non ethanol mode all of the time with no resistor either.

thanks 4 input don't live near anchorage live in north pole....just out side Fairbanks, know the guys at the local mod shops but I like 2 get all the info I can gather b4 I make a choice...rick at philps field reck...a local mod rod shop runs your pipe loves it and recommended your stage 2 he runs it I just know hes stuck in the shop bilding ppl toys .and doesnot get as much time as he would like riding ...or testing...he said he has your pipe running nice whith heaver weaights than u call 4 and will happley sell me what I need I just like 2 get all the info I can especially when the time on a product is limited.i like 2 work out the qurks b4 I have them...sweet days on the snow.....priceless!!!keep it steep and deep kids and thanks 4 the help!
