SLP? MBRP? SuperQ?

Most will agree that HPS is one of the better cans to run, sound good and one of the only cans that u dont lose power on. I was going to go with the HPS on my Pro but i decided to try something different. I have a BMP powderlite ordered, just waiting on delivery. They are really light which is what i liked, but im not sure if im going to like the noise! If it is too loud ill prolly just get a HPS. Its worth a shot...

Curious to see how any of the aftermarket cans compare in weight to the stocker. For a stock can the Pro's is pretty darn light...

stocker weight is 11.5, BMP's powder lite is 4lbs. not sure what the weight on the other companies are.

I saw a post somewhere on her about HPS cans for the pro. Someone said Chris told them it was about 6 lbs lighter than stock. But I don't even know what a pro muffler weighs.. And what if any HP gains?

Just got some MBRP cans in at work the other day. Put one on a PRO RMK. Fit and finish is amazing. Sound it not bad. seems a little quieter then previous years. Seams like it weighs a little less then the stock can but not much.

Saw and heard a pro sat. with a Harley can on it. It was LOUD! Then I saw it, nothing much but a straight pipe, so I'm sure it doesn't weight much. Didn't ask him if he was promised it didn't make less hp. Sure sounded cool!!!!!

I have an MBRP can on order - they claimed 7lb savings over the stock can (we'll see). I've had MBRP cans on most of Polaris sleds back to the Edge chassis, but they seem to be getting more quiet with each generation. I was disappointed to hear they are only doing a 'trail' version of their can for this chassis and no 'race' version...

So what is the sound output on these cans?

Colorado and several other states are now testing and monitoring levels and writing tickets for noise violations.

i would get a slp, dont know if the others quite have the knowledge or tooling to make something that is just a hp robbing noise maker

Of the ones mentioned... My preference is for the SLP and SPG cans.... with the SPG getting the nod for slightly lower weight in the past (the new 2011 SLP cans are yet to be put on the scale)

They are very high quality... have a bit more rumble than stock. Both are flow matched to the Stock polaris silencer using a flow-bench, which is VERY important these days with the sensitive CFI systems.

I really like the quality of the HPS cans... but they are pretty darn loud in comparison to the SLP and SPG which do pass the Colorado sound check.

The MPRP... loudest of the above mentioned.

Jimmy, the owner of BMP, took time to show me his silencers...The BMP silencers also seem to be very high quality and light as well.

Most of the cans that have any real silencing properties to them are in the 7-9 lb range which would net 2.5 - 4.5 lb weight reduction.

With the stock can so light at approx 11.5 lbs... there is not as much weight to be lost in a muffler as there used to be.

Anyone that says that their silencer ADDS power... I'd be very very critical of... Back in the day there was a potential for some cans to add power to Some sleds... but in this day and age of very well tuned, computer controlled, EPA regulated sleds... It really is just not that simple and many of the "free flowing" silencers actually can cause HP to drop or cause some serious runnability issues.

These sleds are not running "restricted" exhausts that will benefit from simply "opening up" the exhaust.

If I were to buy a can these days... I'd ask for flow-bench results from the stock silencer and what the vendor is offering (from the same flow bench) to make sure they were very close to the same. If they cant give that info... I'd pass on that brand.

If they say that they increased the flow for use with the stock pipe/fuel-map I'd ask why and how. If they altered the map using a piggyback controller like the PC-3/5, BD box, or Dobeck box... find out how much on the snow testing has been done.

HPS knows what their doing, I've been running it with the slp pipe together works great, very well built, the nice thing about the HPS is that you can have the quiet can when idling and the louder can when you get on it, it isn't too loud for the guy riding the sled but it sure scares the crap out of the guys I pass on the hill.

HPS Can

ordered one yesterday.......guy on the phone said they wont start shipping them for another 3-4 weeks.....350 have been ordered but nothing completed yet.....he also said they have done "real world testing" but no dyno tests yet.

And the purpose of this is to...scare the crap out of guys? A little off the subject, but as a FORMER owner of a loud "silencer" I came to realize they probably do more harm than good. Trust me, my ears ring 24/7. This is probably not just from snowmobile exhaust systems, but it is definitely enough to put someone over the edge. Not to mention it probably doesn't do much good for the sledding communities public perception. I am not saying you are one of those guys that purposely "braap" other sledders, I am just stating my opinion.

The only positive thing you get with a can is weight reduction.

The negatives are they lose power...... and are usually too loud.

We have sold a ton of SuperQ Silencers in the past few years without any problems. Skinz stands behind their products. We haven't had a single warranty issue with their products like other brands. I don't think you could go wrong with a Super Q. SuperQ silencers offer a great sounding exhaust note without being to loud. Trust means alot for us, and Skinz provides it.
