Sleds stolen in sicamous

Hey everybody -

went sledding over Christmas/New Years Break with a group of family and friends at Sicamous. Collectively as a group, we have been going there at this time of year for the last 10 years and have never had an issue!!! Always been an excellent destination with great people and great snow.

Yesterday (December 31st) morning, we woke up in the morning to find a 2 place open trailer with 2 Ski-doos on it STOLEN!!

2004 Ski-doo Summit X 800 151" yellow and black with a BROKEN REAR SPRING AND SHOCK.

2007 Ski-Doo Summit X 159" grey and Black.

The Sleds belong to a family of 4 from a small town in Alberta.

The Day BEFORE THIS HAPPENED, another person in our group was loading up his skidoos in the Parking lot at Owls head after a day of Riding, when he noticed a LARGE BLACK POLICE BATON/CLUB laying beside his truck. We gave it to the RCMP when they were investigating yesterday, and they indicated right away it was definetly being used as a tool to break into vehicles.

The stolen sleds/trailer were parked RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE FRONT OFFICE of our motel and the @$$holes had the nerve to cut the lock and chains off, and manhandle the trailer around the truck so they could hook on to it.

Sicamous has always been an excellent destination with great sledding and has always been good to us. I realize our friends will probably never see their belongings again, but I still wanted to post this and make everyone aware to be carefull and realize this kind of cowardly behaviour still happens no matter where you go.

This has gotten so out of hand! I feel for you and will say that we'll keep our eyes open in Kelowna but we all those sleds will be a lot farther away than Kelowna by now. The balls of these C@ck Su(k#rs.... NO DETERRENT WHATSOEVER!!!!!!!!
They obviously know that nothing can and will be done to them by the authorities should they get caught or they wouldn't be taking such ballsy risks.
It's too bad insurance is so expensive because that seems to be our only alternative is to keep our sleds heavily insured. Like I can talk..... none of my 3 are insured!
Good Luck and Happy New Year!

Whats insurance cost in BC? I have my turbo nytro insured for 25,000 and it was under 400 dollars. Thats without collision which is fine by me, looking for fire and theft as the two most important things on my policy

Decent insurance for my 2007 Phazer for $6000 coverage would run me about $500 plus. For my 2000 MM 700 value of $3500 would be about $380.

re:stolen sleds

We also have been going to sicamous last 7 years, we always stay at the best western off the hwy never had a problem yet, this year we are staying at eagle valley lodge the owner has cut in two trails one to blue lake & the other to owlshead sled from your door step and is gated compound.Where were you staying when this happen, good luck hope you find these loosers.

spot

would one of those spot devices if left on a sled give some idea to its whereabouts. We need to put a few planted trailers around and find these guys, a lojack or something.

These fAAkers need to be caught........Sorry that happened to you......... My enclosed 4 place trailer was stolen from me a month ago in Kelowna......

Was in Princess Auto a month ago and saw a street person buy a crowbar ( surprised he just didn't steal it). I asked the cashier why she would sell something like that to him and she said there nothing she could do.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I get so POed when people get ripped off. We work to hard for some loser ***hole to get 10 cents on the dollar for our expensive stuff. Does this chit just happen in B.C.? Every time I read another thread on stolen sleds it seems to be in the interior of B.C. There must be a chop shop close by.
Word of advise from losing to many toys to ***holes. Even had a motocross bike taken out of my garage when mowing the lawn!
Locks only keep honest people honest.
I made up a box that goes over the trailer coupler then padlocks from underneath. Got the idea from the gates used to close logging roads here at home. Can't get a set of bolt cutters up underneath to cut the lock. Pain in *** but you would need torches to get my trailer. Sad to say it but, padlocks and chains just aren't good enough any more.

Capri Insurance has a new sled insurance program....alot cheaper than last year.I just insured my XRS for 10k....Full coverage including Comprehensive and Trail Star.....an extra 50 bucks(covers heli evac/etc etc.. if you damage or total your sled....does not cover motor damage due to wear and tear)....for the full pull i was just under 500........Including my wifed 04 summit 600 for 5K,,,,,with full coverage we were under 900 bucks for the two....Call Brenan at Kelowna Capri INsurance

Besides the insurance theres a few surprises rigged up for the C O C K S U C K E R S that show up:mad:

Heard from our Friends Yesterday that RCMP located their 2 place aluminum sled trailer in Vernon !!!!!!

So I guess they drove out to vernon yesterday to pick it up, but no sign of any sleds...... So that would indicate to me that they are moving westerly from Sicamous anyways......

Probably won't recover the machines, but I'm really surprised that they located the trailer! I guess thats some good news.....

Ya those SPOT GPS deals would be perfect.... hide one of them on the sled somewhere, and then activate it everynight in the parking lot so a guy could track it if it were stolen.........

Its pretty f ' ing sad though to see posts on here all the time about stolen sleds.......Man if I ever caught someone trying to steal my sled I wouldn't have a choice..... would have to take the law into my own hands.....

as a point of interest you should be aware that without collision you're sled would not be covered if was on a deck, trailer etc. and you were in an accident.
Many of the guy's I ride with were not aware of this fact until recently, they all believed that the tow vehicle's insurance would cover the sleds.
unfortunately, you need this collision while transporting sleds.

What about a break-away alarm on the trailer? Seems to me it would be simple to put a small pin on the wiring harness or safety chain so that once they disconnect it, it sets either the tow vehicle's horn or an alternative siren. Simple to bypass but unlikely they'd know about it until it was too late, at a hotel during the night. Maybe a baby monitor under the bumper so you can hear if anyone's messing with it during the night? No good while out to dinner but every little bit helps to catch 'em red-handed, no?

Unfortunatly thieving is so bad when it comes to powersports toys you just can't leave anything out.I personally will not stay anywhere overnite with my sleds, quads unless they are inside a locked garage out of site out of mind.I hate to hear these posts as there is allways a certain criminal element that preys on this, yes I would like to take them hunting and feed the coyotes:mad:

We just spent two night in Revy. There was an enclosed two place left alone in the parking lot of the hotel the whole time. No lock on the hitch at all. Don't know if there was anything inside. Sask plates.

Do you have any other info on the sleds ? serial #s or some defining mark ?
I live in the area and would love to catch one of these F...ers red handed !

I'll see if I can dig up the serial numbers..... the 2004 summit is yellow/black with a bee on the hood and has a broken rear spring and shock, so unless they take the time to buy parts and fix it that would be easily identifyable in a sale situation..... the 2007 looks like every other one out there so would be hard to spot it..... black/grey summit x.

Thanks a lot though for keeping a look out though! Appreciate it!
