Sled Runs but lost all electrical/tach?

Out for a ride, noticed the tach was intermittantly not working then eventually it quit along with all of my lights. Sled runs fine otherwise?

Any advice?

Thanks

it either has a shorted wire or the voltage regulator, just don't start the sled with the voltage regulator unplugged or you will have to replace all the bulbs

I am hoping for the "oh yea, that is caused by the blue wire right on top of the motor" answer. LOL!

I am thinking a wire as it would start working when I went WFO, but then 5 seconds afer I let off the tach/lights would die again until eventually it all went dead.

Pull some of the lights and look at them. I bet they are all blown out. Voltage reg went south, popped all the bulbs and then the tach quits working. Good news is that the tach should be fine once you change the vr.

with that description I would get a vr, a short everything would just not work. if you have done something to the sled recently look there but vr will more then likely fix it

I have the same problem on my sons 99 rmk 600 and I just replaced the VR with new one Polaris sells and it did not fix anything. The tach, and lights are still inoperative. Any thoughts please let me know?

I tried disconnecting the yellow wire on the VR which should allow current flow. No dice.

While I was riding today the tach came on once when I went WFO for a stretch. I looked and all of my lights were on when the tach was on. Of course it all stopped working again but at least I know the bulbs are good.

Sadly, I am going to have to look at the lighting coil....

Could this be a stator problem? My son's sled has the exact same problem and I just replaced the VR with the new style Polaris unit.

im kinda having the same problem with my sled too. 99 xc 600, except mine is just the dash lights that light up the tach and speedo side. all the other lights work. any ideas on that????

i did install a tether right b4 this, and they all worked then. so i undid what i did do and still nothing. can it be that i burnt out both bulbs at the same time????

thanks

Check for frayed/shorted wires under the seat that go to the tail light. If you don't want to remove the seat then disconnect the plug at the front of the gas tank before the wiring disappears under the seat.

This is where I am headed.

Others have expressed concern with these wires anywhere from under to seat to under the oil res. I am definately hoping for an easy find on this one.

I had the exact problem on my build. Shorted wire in taillight wiring. Unplug by the chaincase, or just unplug by the seat/gas tank and see if it works.

I unplugged wiring under the seat at the tank and this did not fix. I will unplug in front of the tank and see what happens.

Fun Fun Fun...

VR issue

I had a VR go south on my 00 800. ordered one from Dennis Kirk. Installed problem solved .... for six miles. Looked around andt talked to some people. Installed a 2 wire regulator off a 96 Cat powder special. yellow wire to Polaris plug brown wire clipped and grounded with the rest of the polaris bunch that grounds at the VR. very simple install just needed one 2.5x 10-24 bolt with flat and lock washer, problem solved for good. have over 200 miles on sled since the swap and everything is working fine.

On my 97 ultra SPX I just did rebuild with pistons n rings , gaskets . Tail lights , brake lights, headlights work. BUT I don’t have dash lights or tach. Could it just be the fuse in the guage cluster wires or something more? Also I cut the wires n removed the hood wen doing the rebuild. When done added butt connectors for the wires. All said n done, I have a yellow wire coming from sled , but not from the hood wires. Thsnx for any info. dmdtom
