Sled Gas Question???

Good point Coldfinger. I forgot lower altitude has higher octane. Maybe mid grade would be ok, for me with as little as I ride, I'd put in the higher priced gas to be safe.

If you ride every day or at least every weekend, I could see it something worth considering. I'd still like to hear it from a dealer or someone before I would do it.

Luckily my 03 only requires 87.

Put in what the book says, the higher the octane the less volitile or explosive it is, so it can handle getting "squeezed" harder, and handle high temps so it won't detonate pre- maturely by high compression engines. It does not not make more power or make you faster, it just makes you poorer. I think 87 at around 2000 ft. is supposed to be the same as 85 at 5000 ft. You might get by using 87 instead of 91 at 10000 ft. but I would not try it, I would use what the engine manafcturer requires.

Doo doo says 91 on the gas cap so I put 91 in zee gas tank....

My old Poo had the premium/regular key positions, but I always ran it on the premium with premium cause, well, you need that extra timing LOL

NOPE

higher octane explodes at a slower rate than lower octane....so it prevents denotation on really high compression engines because high compression creates more heat...there is no advantage to using more octane than required and an engine will run best on the lowest octane that it can properly run on....87 in my M7 just like the guys that built the thing recommend

YEP

I didnt get a manual with my XRS....anybody know what minimum octane they say to run in the 800r???
thanks

do you realy think a manufature would build a engine that would blow up if you put in 87? NOT . ran 91 in 07 summit last season switched to 87 this season. sled runs way better.most 07s run 2 cold anyway. also 800r has knock sensor so no worrys

If your hitting your knock sensor you are probably loosing performance.

Fan sleds

Here is one for you all. My wife's 550 fan ran great the first day out on a new tank of 87. The next time we went I put 91 in it since I had just filled mine. Started down the trail and the oil, temp and ((!)) lights come on. Could it possibly be the 91? Or purely coinsidence, because I can't find a problem with the sled.

I run 91/92 in the ProX, but I run in the premium fuel setting, the wife runs on the regular setting, but we switch sleds so often, I just put the 91 in.

I can't remember what I ran last year in the rmk.. I think 91, I know I've been putting 91 in it this year... I don't know what the min is. I have hte motorcycle carbs on my 700 RMK.

OH my, did it come with a gas cap? As the gas cap says, the owners manual says. 91

With all the brainpower rolling around SW somebody should be able to answer this. Is there a formula a person could use that would let you know what octane fuel you should be running? For example at 160 lbs compression with X amount of squish you must run 105 octane.:beer;
