Sled decks

another option

90% of the time leaving home to sled its one sled...............so I use a single ramp and slanting deck into back of my SWB REG cab chev, when I need to haul more, one sled back of Chev and pull my two place covered trailer, versitile, slick nasty driving on sat morning nice to have one sled in truck sitting low, good traction, I go barefoot when everybody else has to chain up and hiway driving.......... no gas mileage sacrifice. Two sleds on high deck, on my chev its about 3mpg less, weekday driving you'll notice that deck sticking out or you need to tune in a little.

Evertime I go through N Idaho, everyone has the crane lift for their sleddecks, like to try that idea, never seen one around home, either steep ramp or more complicated slide back to earth ramps.

Does any one upgrade the rear suspension with the use of a deck? I have a 2500 chevy and was thinking of air bags, sway bar or something along those lines, just curious what everyone does.

If you have a 3/4 ton you won't even know they are back there . . . also have a small 1/2 ton P/U that I use to haul the sleds, I put airbags on that and it hauls them fine. Looks funny, but works fine.

I threw a set of firestone air bags on the 3/4 ton dodge, but I also pull a pretty heavy trailer(s) with the deck and sleds. I like the stability better, but I also have a few heavy loaded miles on the old girl too, so my springs are probably not in "showroom" condition anyway.

3/4 ton chevy handles much better in the snow with a loaded deck than with a trailer. Gas milage does not change for me and I never cover the sleds, they don't get nasty up there. Some people get a little freaked out driving up or down the first couple of times, but other than there are no negatives. I have a sled deck and a three place trailer, the trailer does not EVER get used, it is a pain compared to the ease of the deck. Once you get one you will wonder how you got by without it before. You can park anywhere, drive as far up the road as you need to chase the snow, or park in the ditch on the side of the highway. A sled deck opens up more options and adds a level of convenience that no trailer can match.

well put!

i had one 2 seasons ago. sold it cuz i wanted a covered trailer. Just sold the trailer and have a new Motomikey in my backyard :)

i built my own, i used to build them for a local honda shop until they decided to go for a cheaper built one that they sell for more $$$, used to be able to build one and sell it for around 800 before prices of steel went crazy a couple years ago. I also mtn lion hunt in the winter with hounds so i built the underneath part into a dog box.

i use the deck the most in the winter because of how easy it is to get around with, it uses the same tiedowns that my camper uses so it is super stable

Very well put!! I'm a distributor for the Marathon decks out here on the east coast and that's exactly what I convey to my customers. I not only sell these decks but have always used a deck since the 80's. As a matter of fact, I still have the deck from 1987
