sled deck winching sleds up who done it?

I used to load mine that way in the early mornings so I wouldn't wake up the neighbors. It puts a lot of strain on the front end of your sled and you should be very strategic in how you hook it up. You also have to come up with some way to keep the cable from grinding on the end of the deck as the sled is coming up the ramp. It's kind of a hassle!! It's also dangerous if the cable happened to snap at head level!! Now I just load the night before. I left the winch on so if I break I can get it up easier.

FYI. If you haven't bought your winch yet get the biggest one you can!

My old man had a home make deck back in the mid 1970's (before sleds had enough power to drive up a steep ramp) and he had a 1500lb Superwinch mounted to a short piece of trailer tongue and a trailer ball mounted at the front/center of where each sled went and a bar that went between the skis. Might be a little harder with no leaf spring susp to put the bar behind, but it worked great.

rope the spindles

looping a thick rope around the
spindles-would using this method
put to much strain on front end and
maybe tweak our break something?

I have a flatbed that sits real high and a steep angle ATV ramp, I have a hand crank(boat crank) that I mount(removable) on the headache rack , when I have to load them , I start up the sleds so I have a little motor assist and they seem to walk right up, kinda sorta , atleast thats how its supposed to go.

I've done it only for dead sleds though. It comes in handy instead of a lot of pulling / swearing when you need to load a crashed / dead sled up there. For regular use I would suggest winching would be too slow. The latest deck I have is a marathon deck with a 12' ramp and is it ever nice to load / unload on as the angle on the 12' is better.

Just drive the sleds up the ramp. We load sleds on lifted trucks all the time. Its only scary the first dozen times!:D

im with doober, why? if its blown up put it on the trailer, if u dont have a trailer i feel very sorry for u

for doober

there was a guy on had an accident
loading on a sled deck, knocked some
of his teeth out and smashed his face
[no helmut] I have seen many accidents due to the steep
angle-had 2 myself-will probably try the 12' ramp
folding or other design.

technically, I think if you broke both of your sleds loading them into your truck, your trucks insurance would cover them, kinda like, when you tow your sleds in a trailer and you wreck, your sleds are covered under the trucks insurance.

Might work might not. I have insurance on both of my sleds just in case I dont like them anymore ;)

Insurance for your truck will cover the trailer but not contents.

sabertooth: I have three sleds covered with 500 deductible for about 400 a year. The most expensive being the 07x summit at about 175 a year.

man.......... that aint bad at all! my insurance company is takin me to the cleaners!

I had a really really hard time insuring my M7, really hard time, but my kingcat wasnt so bad. Im about twice as much as you are :(

Didnt know insurance didnt cover the contents. Will pass that on

I just load off of a snow pile and back them off onto flat ground, thank god for PERC! If theres not a big enough snow pile, there,s not enough snow to ride.

I have a sled deck and running 35's on my truck so the ramp is steep. First load of the year is a little hairy but then it's gravy. Wrecked a sled and just dragged it up with some buddies. Winch sounds like a pain in the arse!

Just ask someone in the parking lot to load it for you:)
