Sled deck plans/build

Thread dedicated to develop ideas for deck builds, plans and ideas around the topic. Lets have it on ramps too. Metal, aluminium, wood.

Bring here plans, links, pictures, videos and ideas. The build it yourself brainstorming one stop. I spent time looking around and info is dispersed so having a one stop destination will help the cause.

Also would be great for people to share their pricing estimates and total costs.

So far I get wood is good for cheap inbox solution for one sled. Then for on top decks, you need to beef up aluminium to get strenght and weight evens up close to metal with smaller gauge/size. Alum more expensive but sexy and won't rust. Bring on alternative materials too wood for decking and slinding solutions for skis.

Let us know what worked for you. Show us progress and finished project. Let us know if you got sick of it and felt like moving on.

Looking to build myself one with extendable sides or extendable add ons. I carry one sled most the time but I'd like the option to grab a buddies sled for the odd times. I've drawn some ideas for one with extendable pullout sides and realize the weight add on is significant.Thinking of going with add on attachments instead to save the weight when I don't need it. It's be 2 pieces to attach or slide in on each side that I'd leave home most the time and making it lighter to unload.

Thinking of using metal as I want to keep it on the cheap side and I am doing my first welding jobs. I've edited the first 2 post here to try giving a direction to home made project one stop resources. Thanks to everyone who have contributed already. Also a good spot to sell your deck for cheap when others are pricing out things!

Where abouts are you located? im in the same boat as you going to build my own deck soon and wouldnt mind vounveing ideas off someone else.

Thanks for the replies!
Useful info. I may just go with a desing of my own. Been putting things off as out of funds nowadays after getting my radio system finished. Stupid move but it's done now. So back to the drawing table! I wanr ro get extendable sides, probably removable ones too to keep weight down for unloading puposes as I like to keep better gas mileage when I can shave the weight.

If we can get this thread going with some good, creative ideas, I have the tools and can find some time to make proper drawings combining these ideas that can be posted for free for everyone to use.

I haven't taken a good look at many decks before, but one would interest me to have kicking around if I could just throw it on the truck when I need it. I've been meaning to look at this before, but keep putting it off and this would be a good reason for me to get back on it.

It would be nice if their was one that had a slide out for the bed of the truck. I've seen some local contractors that have what I would call a drawer in the bed of their truck. They drop the tail gate and open up their topper and slide out this drawer. It goes from front to back of the bed. This way they can basically fill the bed with tools and whatever and get to all of it without crawling into the bed. Obviously it can only take a certain amount of weight. If their was something like this under the sled deck you could put gear, gas jugs, or whatever on this "drawer" and slide it in. Way easier access to your stuff.

Been wanting to have this for years....it needs to be done.

Another good idea is a winch that mounts to the headache rack of the deck for loading dead sleds and moose !!!

You're talking about a "Gorilla slide": http://gorillatoolbox.com/

Or a "Bedslide": http://www.pickupspecialties.com/Bedslide/bedslide.htm

I ain't rich enough to buy all the fancy bling money can by and I like the satisfaction to get things done myself. Want to share my ideas and hear what others have done to get home made stuff to the next level getting all the good ideas put in one place to pick from.
