Sled deck for a 07 Toyota Tundra?

Just buy a new F150 they claim 3000lbs payload  Unless you go to the scales, you have no idea if your over or not with a 1500 chances are YOU are. Because my 3500 is going to be almost overloaded, no way a 1500 is going to be legal

I actually over-rated the payload. Here are the payloads as listed by Toyota, hence the only reason I drive a 1 ton truck.

The warranty on my 6.0L Ford is just about to run out and after $21000.00 worth of mechanical repairs (under warranty) it is time to look for a reliable truck. I just wish Toy's payload was higher as they make great trucks. I just do not want to go back to hauling a trailer.

4X4 DOUBLE CAB SR5 4.7 V8 5A STD Payload kg (lbs) 565 (1,255)

4X4 DOUBLE CAB LTD 4.7 V8 Payload kg (lbs) 580 (1,285)

4X4 DOUBLE CAB SR5 5.7 V8 6A STD Payload kg (lbs) 630 (1395)

4X4 DOUBLE CAB SR5 5.7 V8 6A LONG Payload kg (lbs) 615 (1365)

4X4 DOUBLE CAB LTD 5.7 V8 Payload kg (lbs) 645 (1430)

It doesn't take long when it takes 8 hours to replace a belt on the 6.0. What doesn't go wrong in a Ford? :p

My truck still takes all my money but it goes to mods, not repairs!

3, f350 and 1 bad turbo and some door locks. maybe this is how ford gets back to you guy north of the border. as for payload the f250 we have is a little light i cant even imagine the 1/2 ton.

This 6.0L has been a nightmare. My 7.3L was trouble free, hence the reason I bought another Ford (needed a 1 ton). What hasn't gone wrong, rear end, head gasket (cab had to come off), 2 different turbos, power steering pump, injectors, sensors, and the list goes on. One bill alone was over $7100 for a turbo and and head gasket. The only thing left to go is the tranny and I am expecting that to go anyday now. I am just glad I had the extended warranty which runs out a 150,000 KM which is not far away.

Mechanical repairs were over $21000.00 (Ford Dealer rates). That does not include the $12500.00 worth of body work that was done in September from theives taking my truck from my driveway and joy riding in the thick woods. Cops figured they did a drug run across the border (through the woods). I wanted the insurance company to write it off but wouldn't. Like I said.....NIGHTMARE!! Now I have a ICP sensor gone....to be continued.....

Was thinking it would be on the edge just thought i would see if some one tried it.

thanks

Depends on the 1/2 ton. In most cases it won't work, it will be over the capacity. In some US built trucks you can get the heavy package in the long box 1/2 ton that is like a heavy duty but then you will be right at the maximum with no room to spare.

It kind of sucks because it can be done within legal limits but it's so close you don't have breathing room for even a bit of slush on the truck or the sleds not to mention gear and people that go in the truck.

I guess I got lucky having two great running 6.0s, both chipped and ran hard

A sled deck with one sled on it would probably be okay for a 1/2 ton but having that much weight hanging off both sides of a 1/2 ton truck would bother me...

I'd be more concerned with the brakes. The brakes are rated for a certain weight, put more than recommended and you may overheat and burn them up. Especially in the mountains.

Although weight ratings with 1/2 tons will be at/near the edge, I promise brakes and axles are NOT a concern in the Toyotas. 07+ Tundras have beefier brakes than F350's....you need 18's just to clear the rotors, even the rears.

A couple friends of mine have decks on Tundras, I'm sure they're right at the legal limit or over, but they handle awesome. Needs airbags to ride level, but so does an F250

X2

I think the brakes on the current 1/2 tons are probably far stronger than ANY 3/4 ton from 10 years ago. The towing capacities are getting higher as well. Also there is going to be a pretty substantial safety factor built into the load ratings on all trucks. I think even 500lbs over should be no problem for the running gear. Airbags and rear sway bar definitely a good idea for stability.

The worst part is you could have a 1/2 ton with the diffs, springs, brakes out of a F550 and the cops only look at what the little door sticker says for weight...

And Tundra still can't haul or tow as much as a 150. You would think with all the "beef" you talk about it would be a different story?
Have you driven both and still hold that opinion? I highly doubt it....

Toyota is generally very conservative with it's ratings...be it horsepower, towing, whatever. My V8 4Runner had a rating much lower than my GMC 1/2 ton, however, it pulled my boat with more confidence, particularily in the transmission and braking departments. Hauling capacities are a function of many things...it's basically the weight left over at the end of all else, for the truck to fit into its insurance class and has little to do with what it can "handle," unfortunately.

A Honda Ridgeline has a payload of 1500lbs....do you really believe it will handle a sled deck and 2 sleds better than a Sierra with a payload of 1200-1300? But, as stated above me, the sticker is all that matters and if you're worried about getting busted....get a trailer instead of a deck and buy a 3/4 ton+ next time around, not much other solution.

Me personally would probably go for it...I already speed and do a bunch of other $hit wrong on the road...what's one more haha
