Skis...what to buy for the 09 m8

Hey,

I have an 09 m8, love the sled but found there could be some improvement with the skis.

I have read lots of good comments about the SLP Powder Pros skis and went to my dealership today to inquire about getting a pair. The guy at the dealership highly recommended I go with the Simmons Flex ski.

Any comments and/or suggestions on either ski?

And if you have either pair what did you pay for them?

Thanks,

I have Powder pros with the Carls mod on my Dragon and regular powder pros on the M1000 they are better than stock skis in powder for sure but can be a handful on the trail and in heavy crust, I had the Simmons gen 1 Flexi ski on an older Doo and they were nothing super special, I have ridden a T-Nitro with the Gen 2 Simmons and they were like canoes on the spindles but they really float in the powder, I have considered putting them on the heavy nosed M1000 and they may work out well but they have significant issues in anything other than powder, The Powder pros work well but I am not certain the Carls mod makes a huge difference.

Really like Powderhounds on my M-1000. Not as quick turning as the Powder Pros but like a little slide in the deep stuff.

I have read the MODS skis work extremely well on the M series but, they are very dated looking.

As far as good looking goes, the Slydogs look great but, I have read that they look better than they work.

Why can't Slydog buy MODS design and make it look like a modern ski that actually works well and then we'd have something.

FYI - after all my research, I too plan to put on a set of Powder Pros this season.

Have ridden buddies sleds with powder pros and I wouldn't have another sled without Simmons Gen 1. Especially for side hilling. I'm just sayin'.

777, I don't quite understand this. Are you saying that you prefer the Simmons Gen 1 skis over the Powder Pros?

Are any of these skis far superior to the the stock ones? Is it worth upgrading?

stockers suck except they are real light. AC has some new skis that are lighter .5 " wider and have a deeper keel. I might have to try them out. the gen 1 track good but the edge has to much bite and will dive into tree wells. the powder pros = great in pow suck in hard. the gen II worked great on my 07 m1000 and not for beans on my 09 m1000( weight diff and the 2 wheel kit changed the geometry of the tipping point ) I almost would like to try some poo or doo skis on a m to see how they worked.

I went through this dilema last year. I ended up getting powder pros for my 07 m8 And I loved them! I already put a pair on my 2010 as well. Get them they work awesome in the powder! Really worth the money!

ahh.. I was thinking this would be a simple decision. I hear great things about both of these skis and now of course this thread showed me the Slydog Skis which I didn't know existed.

My one concern with the powder pros is we get decent powder where I am, however I found myself riding in mostly average snow conditions for most of the year last year.

I want an all around decent ski that has better floatation then my stock ski.

Opinions on the Slydogs anyone?

the PP work great as long as they can sit down in the snow it on hard snow the tend to dart.

If you are interested in Slydogs, just unbolt the wheels from a couple skateboards and bolt them to your spindles. They will work about the same.

They are the worst ski I've ever tried.

Slydogs are great for everything except crusty snow(crust ontop sugary type snow), then they are pretty scetchy. Wild darting will be the highlight of your morning in the springtime.

I have powder pros on my 09 M8 and they work great in the powder but are hard to turn when the snow is crusted.

No more time then it takes I think this year on the crusted days I will just put the original skis back on

I run C&A Pro XT's on my SnoPro, worked very well on trail and deep.
Anyone try these on the M? I would think with the deep center keel and the outer keels they would be a viable option.

I have the Simmons Gen 1 on my 09 and they work good. I never have a problem holding a sidehill or carving (at least not a ski problem). They work great in powder and pretty good on the trail.

On the trail to get to the real riding I think the Cat suspension is the biggest problem not the skis. You have to really like Cats to take that kind of beating all winter.

I would buy simmons again but you probably won't go wrong with either choice. Buy which ever one is cheaper.

I've run Powder Pros (2 sets), SlyDogs (got rid of them as fast as possible), and Simmons Gen1 (good, heavy and I broke them) I love the PP, my buddy is always saying that AC should just contract w/SLP to have them as OEM, they're perfect for cats. I have PPs coming for the '10

I have an 08 M8 and put the Simmons Gen I skis on them and love them for the trails and the deep. I ride most of the year in MN/WI/MI on groomed trails. From what others have said, and in my humble opinion, you will not be disappointed with them for mixed riding. Absolutely no darting on the trails at all, ever! They float pretty well on the powder too.

I agree about the suspension being poor for the trail. I had my shocks re-valved a couple weeks ago to help tame the trails better and not beat me to death. I'll have to wait till we get some snow to give report on that mod. If it still suck's I'll try the GEO Mod to fix the geometry.

I'll have the simmons Gen I on every sled I own from now until I find something better. My .02c
