Skinz....we still have a problem.

Let me start by saying I love the new front end. Huge diffrence over stock and there is no way im going back.
With that said, my "updated" heim let loose on Saturday and over the bars I went. Luckily I was going slow at the time. I threw the heims that originally came with the kit in my back pack as spares and im glad I did. That would of been one ugly tow back in.

The problem is Im headed to Island Park on the 13th and need to get this addressed ASAP. Im hopeful that Skinz can squeeze my lower arms in to get the larger heims put in.....

For all of you running the updated heims be careful.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Glad that your pride was the only thing hurt =). it could have been a lot worse that is for sure. I was hoping that the new Heim would fix the issue. Did the heim let go again or did the end of the A-arm let go?

I am a bit confused here though. At the begining you said that your updated heim let loose (larger one). Then you mention that it was lucky you had the originals in your backpack (smaller one). I did not think that you could run the older heims after you had the a-arm updated with the udated Heim. Then at the end you mention that you are hoping that skinz can get you a new a-arm with a larger Heim. Does this mean that the new updated Heim has the same diameter threaded end on it as the old one because that is what i thought the issue was with the smaller heim. The diamater of the threded end was too small and snapping. I am just interested in the front end and want to find out the issues with it. Could you please clarify a little for me thanks!!

Have you been able to get in touch with Skinz about it and if so what have they told you. It sounds like they handled the last issue well once they became aware of the issue.

i too have the skinz front suspension. i really do like how it made my sled handle! way more confidence in off camber and side hill situations. a very good upgrade for any nytro! combined with a turbo and its a whole different sled!
as far as the heims go. the updated ends were from a diffent batch. i believe they felt the original ends had some quality issues ( over hardening, poor quality metal, not really for sure what the deal was) but they were the same size ,1/2", as the originals i contacted skinz about this and they sent me the up-to-date heims and let me keep the originals just in case. i had 0 miles on the originals but just wanted to be sure. they were VERY VERY good about this! they are all about keeping us riding!
i did however bust the updated heim off between the jam nut and a arm. it was a low speed colision with a tree under the snow that i didnt see. wasnt going very fast but heavy sled and imoveable object and something had to give. i contacted skinz about this and sent them my arms to be redrilled for the 5/8 heims. again very easy to deal and took care of it promtly
if youve got any questions at all contact skinz and theyll take care of you.

Now things are making a little more sense. I ASSumed that the updated Heim was the larger 5/8" heim joint that you had to send your arms back to have them retro fitted. I did not realize that they just sent out a different batch of 1/2" heims. Now what B_sand was talking about makes sense. Thanks for the information and i am glad you like your front end. I am definitely headed that way when it comes time to update the front end. Its nice to hear the reports filtering in now that people have been able to get out and use their sleds.
Yes!! From everyone I talked to and from everything i have read the skinz boys handled the issue really well after the initial firestorm of misinformation and skepticism dyed down.

To clarify the heim that broke was the replacement 1/2" heim they sent out. I did not opt tonupgrade to the larger 5/8 heim.
That last picture is the very top of a small tree. If these heims can't take more of a hit then that I should put the stockers back on.

Skins called me on their Sunday to resolve this issue, I was very impressed with their service. Since I'm in a time crunch they have agreed to ship me out a new set of lower a arms with the 5/8 heim. I will then ship mine out.

I thought that was great of Skinz to do.

Hopefully these hold up a lot better.

Sweet!
+2 to Skinz!!!

glad to hear the quick turn around. I think I am going to get a set of these on this summer. I only have one more ride planned during the Expo. I have to get my sled from Rexburg, they adjusted the suspension for me. It handled like a tank before. I hope it works this time. Gonna be in IP over Expo weekend.

1000km on my originals look like new still & iam hard on my stuff it to bad this has happened to a few guys.i absolutely love this front end now that iam getting everything closed to dialed for the suspension.

I sheared my updated 1/2" ones off a couple of weeks ago taking my tie rod with it as the ski buckled. 14hrs later they had a new set on my doorstep. I now cary a spare and will upgrade to the 5/8 as soon as I'm done riding.

I have to ask, I rode a nitro for the first time this weekend and was quite impressed how light it felt to ride,(i ride a arctic m series)the only thing that I could not get used to was the steering was more horizontal and weird but I could not find where it was happy to stay on its side in a side hill, does this kit from skinz change these problems?I am really wanting to go with a nitro because I have a dealer close by that is pretty good, and would also like the dependability of the 4 stroke

OFT Racing makes a steering post relocate kit that improves the steering post angle.

have broke 2 of the "updated" 1/2 inch joints in the last month. Will be sending the arms off for 5/8 update. Although it sucks to be the "guniea pig" for this heim joint problem i will say the Customer service from skinz has been excellent dealing with this issue. They are clearly willing to do what it takes to make it right with their customers that bought this front end.

Ugh. I was hoping to not have to send mine in for the 5/8" upgrade, I have been OK with the 1/2" ones so far.

Has anyone had issues with the 5/8" ones?

I for one would certainly like to know under what circumstances 5/8" Heim broke. whether it be under impact or some other failure. Heims joints are not indestructible peices. In my mind having one break in an impact is one thing but to have them just break going down the trail is something completely different

i find it totally bizarre that a few guys are breaking more than one & some not at all. you would think if they are breaking so easy on some guys that all of us would have broke them within a few hundred miles if it was just the heim being to light.i have had mine 20ft in the air & ride very rough trails whacked a few trees , stuck the skies in the bank hard once & ran into the back of a poo pro:face-icon-small-sho:face-icon-small-blu.just seems random, not pointing the finger or defending anyone but just looking for answers.
