skinz headlight delete

And there is no "actual info" to back up that it's needed or not. If it causes premature failures it would be impossible to pin point it to that.

well... actually there would be.

When the M7 was first out, when people ran them without hoods, they blew ECU's. Sled was fine otherwise, but remove the gauge & light draw... pop, there'goes your ECU. At LEAST the people who say this is a problem with the M have SOMETHING solid to go on, despite being incorrect in regards to the 8 & 1000.

Nothing is guaranteed or perfect, but I'd hope someone that deals with sleds would understand the basics of controls & variables...

This isn't fairies, unicorns & rainbows & hoping on a popcorn fart that your sled might run or not. It's a machine, we test, calculate, and base our opinions on facts, or at VERY least, a solid educated guess, as often the case may be in this sport... rather than how many unicorns we saw last week.

You guys over here just kinda wander through the season hoping these things are gonna run & taking whatever someone posts without real info as facts huh?:hail::hail::hail::hail::hail: Interesting.:face-icon-small-dis

Well, apparently the sarcasm of my comments was lost on you. Secondly, since you are apparently the authority on this particular subject, what is it that you are basing your information off of? Where you told by Polaris that a resistor wasn't needed, or are you like me, and went ahead and pulled the headlight off, and haven't had any problems?

No... I caught your sarcasm loud & clear, my meter is functioning properly.

Polaris hasn't told me anything, just the people in this thread, that's why I'm asking.

Kaleb, random question for ya. Do you keep some other sort of lighting option with you while riding? I don't ride at night all that often but sometimes it happens... Just curious what you usually do if/when that happens. I might do the headlight delete as well which is why I'm asking.

Lead dog man... sick light.

As much as I'm not usually a "CB" follower, do what he does kinda guy... one night we were headed back to the trailer in the dark from the back side of the ears, and Chris pulled out that light... I was sold!! If you buy another sled from him, make him throw one in!!:face-icon-small-hap

I always carried a basic camping headlamp before, which is sufficient (and a bigger one than the tiny ones I carry would be almost as good), but the lead dog is like having brights everywhere you look... WAY better than lights on the sled, if you're riding in terrain. They power off your sled, pretty cool.

Keep in mind though, that if you lose sled power in an emergency situation, it's still good to carry a light source as this is NOT a headlamp in the camping sense, I always have a little LED headlamp in a pocket in my pack for emergencies. (I bought a 5L pack for my vario this year, should be fun squeezing all my stuff into this thing!)

Maybe we should ask the question, does skinz supply a resistor with the kit? or have instructions included that specify the need for one? I personaly know the Skinz family and there business practices and know that they do very extensive research and development with there products before releasing them into the public.... If there was a need for the resistor they would include it in there kit or atleast specify the need for one before use of the machine after installing there product..... If you have any doubts, call skinz up directly and ask. I dont see the need for one, there is so much current draw in the electrical system besides the headlights.. Hand warmers, LCD guage, brake light circut, fuel pump, injectors, TPS(Throttle Position Sensor), BAT(Barrometric Air Temp), Knock sensor, Exhaust sensor, ignition system, ECM, etc... those are just the basics there is lots more.

How much weight does it save? I kind of got over the no headlight thing years ago. What does the lead dog weight.

For me its not so much a weight thing, it is the airflow. Specifically, that area being a vent is probably that largest surface area for air flow, as it is facing directly forward, and is directly over/in front of my inter cooler.

We have taken the time to review your submission to this discussion. Thank you for your time, your input is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, the answer you gave was clearly based on logic & common sense, rather than fear & assumptions.
As a community, we at snowestonline.com (polaris pro-ride chassis subforum) would prefer that you refrain from making that type of post in the future so as to not disturb the flow of rumors & ill-conceived notions.

I believe I speak for all of us at here at Snowestonline.com (polaris pro-ride chassis subforum) that we would prefer this not happen again.

Thank you, and good day sir.

I agree with kestrel, it's more about venting for me, you only save just shy of 3 lbs on the M chassis, not sure what you save on the pro, but the venting gained on either is significant.

The lead dog maybe weighs 1/4 lb? The biggest factor, if you ARE riding at night is just that you've got a light that goes with you, you look up a hill... the light looks up a hill. If you're riding trees, it's a really big factor, as you're always looking around for different lines.

Need help finding a headlight delete kitt.

Does anyone know what the current design is on the headlight delete kitt?

I would like to find the one in metal mesh.
