Skinz bumpers look like crap

customer service sucked a few years ago when i bought some stuff. only thing ive bought since was some handlebars, got those from a dealer

Your not going to find a "good welding guy" who's interested in working for the type of machine shop that companies like skinz have access to.

If they wanted to fix that welding issue I imagine the actual solution is to not have a pointed seam, and instead use less welds and more bends.

Silly design anyway. By the time you've wasted all that argon you have putty left and an expensive structure. Adding more putty will strengthen it at the expense of weight.

How do I know? I built similar things when learning.

i had that same style bumper on my XM. it looked like a jr. high shop project. and you dont want to kiss a tree with either of the "wings" sticking out the side on the wider part of the bumper. it will fold that sucker over with a light hit. square on its a little better, but nothing to brag about.

i have a BM fab bumper sitting in the garage to try out this year. it looks 10x better than the skins. no 1st hand experience with the strength yet, but i have not heard any negative feedback about them yet.

I use to be just like this...all about looks. Does it really matter how a weld looks when your sled should have powder flying off of it & dents & scratches from mowing over trees & epic wipeouts from actual riding? I can't wait to cave in my new Dan Adams NXTLVL bumper which is sick btw!!!!
Currently praying for snow in Whistler!

Having used Skinz products in the past, I can say there quality from early items has slipped considerably to current day. (Boards, Bumpers etc)

Skinz seems content with the level of business they are garnering from their professional endorsements. It seems as Skinz has grown they have adopted a lower quality approach to speed production, they will probably not focus on quality over quantity until sales of products suffers. I saw a few bumpers from Skinz at Haydays this year that left me shaking my head. They made the pictures posted above look good.

That said I have switched away from the Skinz products and have been using BM Fab for the past few seasons. I have been very impressed with the level of service they provide, the quality of products and their desire to hear feedback so they can get better at producing products. And Oh yeah, their products are BURLY... they can take a hit better than Mike Tyson.

I just got in my skinz front and rear bumper and wow do they look terrible they didn't even take the time to grind down the welds to give them a nice smooth clean look. The front bumper had big round gobs of weld on the front of it just put together half assed. I'm gonna grind down all the welds and get them powdercoated again don't even wanna put them on my brand sled looking like they do. For what a guy pays for these bumpers should look a hell of a lot better than they do!

That is the way those bumpers are meant to be, they aren't cutting corners or unskilled. That is the design and when you install them and ride it you won't even see the welds.

I guess I don't understand why, when someone states their displeasure with a product it's called bashing. Quality not quantity.... On a lighter note. Maybe some of you need thicker skinz. (Sick)
Anyway, thanks for the post. And I hope everyone made it home safe last night after trick or treating. $.02.:face-icon-small-ton

Seems like some people like the products and some don't. Also seems like people are blowing $500 on front and rear bumper combos without even looking at the product before they order them.

C'mon... due your homework and spend your money on a product that you like. There are a lot of options out there for us to choose from. Go to a dealer, or look at stuff when you are in the parking lot letting your sled warm up, or use google image. I don't buy stuff sight unseen because I wanna know exactly what I am getting. If the bumper at the dealer was PERFECT and then my bumper came to me with ****ty welds, I'd be pissed... but I don't think that is the case here. I think these bumpers are "As Advertised", and the welds are part of "the look" skinz is advertising.

just my $.02.
