Skidoo carb on snowbike?

Has anyone done this? I have a set of carbs from an 800r that R collecting dust. They r heated and seem like they would suit the application. Anyone got any thoughts?

Just because they are the carb on the bike? Will the 800 carb even fit? How much does it flow? Can one carb meant to feed a 400cc cylinder feed a 450? Seems like a lot of dicking around just for heated carb.

The flow is a good thing to consider for sure. I have a 300 so I'm sure it could flow enough if the 800 makes 75hp ish per hole and my 300 makes 50ish. The carbs I have are also setup for a turbo. I plan to turbo my bike in the fall so this could take some of the trial and error out of it for me possibly since the Ktm carbs has 4 vent lines and they might pop off easily when pressurized. I was thinking the remote chock is also a nice feature of the skidoo carb

KTM will have EFI body for 2018 300, so at least we're getting closer from the factory.

Please post if you get something to work. I'd like to turbo someday too.

It's a great idea and should work if it physically fits. The only problem i see is needle selection. I had big bores and turbos and got stock needless to work but one engine i had to grind the slides to compensate for a rich needle.

Should work. Might stumble a little on very bottom end due to larger throat of the carb. But I think you are onto something.

i almost did the same thing. have a set in my garage. it should work great.

just need some fiddling around to change the rack setup to a single. thats why i never did it. and i wanted a 44mm. biggest you can bore the tm40 is around 42.

if anyone else wants to try it i'll give them mine.

I sure hope not. The last thing I want is the best trail steed to have a bunch of weight, electronics and cost added just because people are to lazy to jet their bikes. Just my opinion I guess.

Ya I like the simplicity of efi if I were to leave it stock as far as being pull and go but for me having a dialed in carb turbo sled the only downfall is that it floods when u roll it. I've never once rejetted my turbo xp or adjusted the power jets once it was tuned and ride 1800-3000m elevation aka 6k-10k ft. I've got most of the parts needed to turbo my bike now but I think I'll wait till fall now so I don't loose any riding time. The stock bike actually gets around surprisingly well with 1/5th the hp my sled has but when it's deep it's hard to hold 3rd gear in a climb. That's where the turbo will help out

I split mine not too hard to do. The hardest part will be fabbing up a little bracket to stabilize the shortened choke shaft. I'm sure I'll figure something out. The only other challenge I see is the throttle cable is different. I haven't even looked at the twist throttle yet to see how it connects but that is the other thing that needs modding

Another carb that might work well for a turbo carb bike is a single RX1 carb. It has both electric and coolant based heating plus its easy to pressurize the float bowl. It is a smaller carb and I don't know the exact size maybe a 36 or so but since you are forcing air in under pressure it probably won't matter very much and it would probably run better off boost. The old Rx1 made gobs of power under boost. It has all kinds of adjustments as well. Maybe it wouldn't work at all but might be worth a look.

Thanks that's good to know m5. I'm just using what I have because I'm cheap af. I also want to stay away from any electric accessories as I haven't measures the current draw of the fuel and oil pump yet and a 100w stator seems to be the most we can get vs the 360w stator on the skidoo

I did a tm40 skidoo carb with heat on my kx500 5 years ago. Never got jetting dialed but it worked

carb swapping

When you go to the 4 stroke with a 2 stroke calibrated carb, I think you will need significantly leaner jetting. I ran a 40 mm Lectron on my 450 yamaha, it was however a different model designed specificlly for 4 strokes. Good idle ( leaner settings ) is often the first big 4 stroke challenge on switching a 2 stroke carb to a 4 stroke.

My skidoo and husky are both 2 strokes but I'm sure the jetting will take some denial and error to get it dialed

There is no such thing as a cheap turbo project Trust me.

I've got a total of $1500 into my skidoo turbo setup including machining the head and got 6000km on it at 10psi. Just rebuilt it for preventative maintenance w new crank jugs and Pistons. The crank did have .017 runout but still ran fine and the Pistons actually looked mint. Not a single deto mark. I did it all w used parts as far as the turbo setup and all brand new skidoo internals. It'll cost about 6-7 hundred to turbo my 300 roughly. I've got all the parts now minus a couple guages
