Or is it just me? Lately I have been seeing a lot of guys running with out them. I konw I've used mine several times by looking at it lately. So whats everyones opinion on this. I think they have saved me quite a bite money when i come across the unseen every now and then.

For me, I don't use one cause of the extra weight. Plus i try to avoid early riding conditions where rocks/stumps are plentiful....I'm still at risk though, but for me, a risk i'm willing to take. We strip everything off our sleds that we can to make them as light as possible, yet still drivable.
I was thinking of eliminating the throttle for even less weight and just put a quick switch for throttle on/off :)

I have hit stuff in the middle of Jan. that has bent some things. The savings in repairs is well worth the extra couple lbs my skidplate added to the sled.

I'd rather have a heavier/reliable sled than a lighter/broken one. Once I can afford to buy and once they (OEMs) have the ability to make the lighter/indestructable un-obtainium for sleds; I'll go without a skid plate. JMHO

It was my skid that suffered as well. I hit a burried rock and bent the rail tips 2.5" to the right (bent just ahead of front h-arm). I just used a vise and straightened the rails back out. So far 2700 miles with no issues on the same rails.

If you reply wrong to this post you will no doubt Jinx yourself. Don't brag if you don't use a skid plate...... You will bust it up next time out...... Just ask me. Was bragging about how strong my King Cat was and just tore the left side of the front.

Have one and I too must be using it, quite a few deep gouges in it. Geez, just weighs a couple pounds, you should see all the stuff in my tunnel bag, shovels, 2 belts, gloves, goggles, plugs, saw, oh ya a tow rope. My buddys must love me, I carry gas too. LOL

Hit a stump on my Nytro (logged in the A-Arms), flipped me over the sled and messed up my shoulder. Did a little damage, but if I had the skid plate on It would not have happened. Also helps with floatation big time!

If you are worried about adding three pounds to your sled for somthing that can save your weekend of riding. There is somthing wrong. instead of worrying about this minute amount of wieght cant you just work out for free and loose 3 pounds of body weight? i use a skid plate and know that I hit alot of stuff and has saved my weekend of riding instead of a weekend of fixing.

hahahaha

i like the point of losing pounds to be able to accomdate a skid plate. I think more guys need to look at it like gearing a sled up for battle. you don't want to go in with a weak motor, and i like to try and go riding with the least amount of weak points i can. And my it's not like my sled is 600lbs with fluids.
