Sirius and XM in AK

So I was thinking about getting XM for my truck and found out that neither Sirius or XM transmits a direct signal to Alaska or Hawaii. Which is wierd because they transmit in Canada and off shores. When I wrote them to ask about it, they informed me that a signal might be able to be aquired in Alaska or Hawaii, but that it would be like an overcast of the signal from Canada, off shores, or the lower 48.

So my question for you guys in AK, is if anyone has ever tried picking up the signal in Anchorage or other nearby areas? Can you still pick up the signal??? If i can't get a signal in Anchorage, I won't subscribe.

supposedly sirius works up there because they have geosynchronous orbit so it would work anywhere, xm satelites are on the equater so no signal even in northern canada

I had a friend of mine move up here last fall with a current XM subscription and I believe he told me it stopped working on the drive up. I would be suprised if Sirius worked either.

dude, we dont even have 3G network for our cell phones up here. I doubt satillite radio would work, I dont know anyone with it.

I have sirius in my truck but I am in southeast alaska and works great. I drove from Hains to Delta Junction to Anchorage and it only cut out once and a while but when we left Anchorage back to hains it cut out a couple time for about a half hour or so but we were in the middle of BFE. I say get it its worth it. When I set mine up I had to use my sisters adress in Washington. They wouldnt let me use my AK adress.

I have spoke with alot of tourists up here that have the service in the rigs that they have driven up. I have yet to meet anyone that has had service in the Anchorage or Kenai Penninsula areas. Somewhere along the drive up, they lose it. I know of no one up here that has it. the audio shops will tell you it is unavailable. It was not until recently that we could get dish network tv or direct tv via sat...only the 8' or bigger dishes. I'm sure the day will come, but it is not here yet.

That really sucks. So I'm guessing that if ya lose signal just past Tok than you wouldn't get it in Valdez either, huh? Why would they do that? Sounds like a lot of lost sales to me. Also pretty crazy about the Direct TV and Dish Network. I can understand the 3G thing though 'cause I don't even think MT has that. But maybe I'm wrong on that. How does a guy go about protesting towards XM and Sirius?
