simmons or powder pro?

im having trouble deciding between the simmons genII or genIII or the powder pros for my 900. I want some float but i have heard some things about the 10" wide simmons genII, anyone got news on the 8" genIII? havnt heard any feed back on those. I hear you cant go wrong with the powder pros but just thinking something a little wider will help the 900 float some.

also still looking for new can/muffler to replace my stock suitcase for my 06 900 rmk, anyone got a used one sitting around??

Powder pros float just fine on mine and hold their line really well while side hilling. They will however make the steering heavier when you are running down the trail.

In my opinion... both GREAT trail performance and GREAT powder performance equals the Original or Gen 1 Simmons Flexi Skis HANDS DOWN (not the wood water skis).....not to mention their flexibility adds to the front suspension of the sled. Also it may be advantageous to do a search on this.:face-icon-small-coo

The first of the Gen III should ship out the end of this week.
So by Christmas there should be a load of new user comments being posted here on SnoWest.

I ran Simmons skis on my '01 800 RMK for 4 years and loved them. When I bought my '06 900 RMK in Sept'/05, I put Simmons on it right away. On this chassis, I hated them. The steering effort was way, way too high for me. I ended up going with Slydog Powderhounds in Feb./06 and haven't looked back. Much easier steering, carve awesome in the powder and will easily hold a sidehill until you run out of hill.

I second AirForceSledder response, great trail and powder ski. I was able to ride a friends sled with the gen II skis and they didn't handle well on the trail but the float in powder is a considerable difference than the gen I. I would say just a preference of what you want.

i had powder pro's and hated them way too much steering effort for me. they are just too aggressive for my kind of riding.

i have simmons gen I's and love them steering effort is normal to me steering response is great, float and sidehilling they work great plus you can get the snow deflector for them and i hardly ever have to run my scratchers on the trail now. i highly recommend the gen I's

my brother has the gen II's they are a good ski but it has some drawbacks, harder to steer and a lot harder to sidehill/pull over with them they like to dig in and grab too. they do float awesome but my brother is switching to the gen I's to make the sidehilling better/easier.

Ski recommendations can be difficult. What are you most looking for out of skis? A ski that handles well off trail will usually give up some performance on the trail and vice versa. Powder Pro's with Carls cut-out on the IQ's is hands down the best ski off trail but gives up a little on the trail but how much... this is dependent on many things.

The differences in opinions on skis should be taken with a grain of salt considering rear skid suspension's, adjustments with springs, limiters, and air, spindles, and the use of sway bars varies between most of us and this will have a huge effect on how well a particular ski may or may not handle.

One adjustment difference in limiters has a huge effect on how a ski handles on the 900's.

Next question

My buddy has an SLP can for your stock pipe if interested.

simmons Gen 3's -I just bought a pair yesterday

they were released today Dec. 15th, from what i've heard they are the cat's meow. they retail colored loops for $440 i bought mine colored for less than that shipped from freeagent 541-523-3500 she has sold 75 pair, and has a bunch for stock, she got the first shipment of skis directly from Simmons. I have had gen 1 for over 7 years on my sleds, they help absorb bumps well, gen 3's have dual skag for excellent steering, 8" wide for superior flotation, but not huge like the gen 2's
