Sierra Sport and Marine No longer a Polaris Dealer

As much as the Tahoe are is a natural area to ride snowmobiles, I suspect part of the problem is there are not enough people in the area to support such a specilized motor sport dealer. The poor economy is not helping matters either. The dealers need to be located near larger population centers and healthier economies.
People are typically buying snowmobiles for 4-5 months out of the year. That is not going to substain a business year round.

Very few shops are solely snowmobile. Watercraft, side by sides and motorcycles are typically carried as well which promotes year round business.

Reno Tahoe has always been more geared towards the skiing industry so sledding in the area has always been relatively small market in comparison. When the economy started to take a nose dive in 2008-09, it wiped out what was already a small market share for sleds. Dealers stopped supplying sleds because they could not sell their inventory.

Now considering all the money and influence that has moved into the Tahoe area over the past few years, snowmobilers were an easy target for environmentalist since the nature of the area and being a relatively small group. It is a shame that people like those of us that grew up in the area are no longer able to go out and enjoy it.

And Murph I am still trying to learn to ride my nytro. Tough sled to ride if you only get out a hand full of time a year =) I have heard that you ride more in one season then i have ridden since I have owned my sled. HeHe Have a great and safe season this year

those are the ones. just make sure the skies are in the air when you do less chance of harpooning one and dragging along the evidence behind you :pound:

Went to Michael's today to see if they could lure me into putting a deposit in a 163xm. They said no new 163s this year because of poor sales last year? What's going on up here?

"Tahoe Low Life"

Sorry man but you first mistake was walking into that Sh+thole. If I were still a doo guy, Tom's has always been my go to guy and still is since I work on some Doo's for friends. Tom is a great dealer and has a long standing reputation in the industry, so give him a call. Bill (adrenaline) in Sac area has built an incredible reputation for Polaris riders and is very active in the community, so a great guy to support as well.
My personal opinion is to boycott Michaels and Reno Cycles and Gear as well as Reno Kawasaki Arctic Cat, they have no interest in snowmobiles, other then moving them off the showroom floor. Until the manufactures get the point that sales are lacking in Reno, this market will continue to flail, with dealers like the ones listed above that do not care about snowmobiling. Have been in contact with Cat personally about Reno Kawasaki and am in continued discussions.

Yes shortly after that post i did give tom a call. He didn't have any 163's coming just like Michael's, he said he'd call me back just like Michael's.

In the end, no word from Michael's after I inquired weeks before and tom called me the next day and sold me a 163. Obviously the reno dealers are not interested in selling sleds.

Few years ago when i was just starting to learn to sled I went to reno cycles and gear. For me still being a noob I felt like I knew more about the product than the salesman. Same day went to Kawasaki and they said they had no plans on getting any sleds that year?? Just wish toms was closer, stoked he has pick up service though.

"Obviously the reno dealers are not interested in customer service."

Jblaze74 Hope you didnt mind but i went ahead and corrected a small part of your statement.

It has always amazed me that a lot of companies in the Reno Casron area have never felt like they had to offer and provide any custome service. Heaven forbit if you buy something out of state and try to get help with parts. they think that people dont have any choice but to deal with them. As many people as i know and as you do as well who feel the same way about cycle's and michaels you would think that they would be out of business but they seem to hang in there year after year offering the same type of service.

Well done getting a 163" Can't wait to get back over there and rip it up ;) Mind you I will be back on the old dog (05 rmk900) that I call frankinpig (lol)

last year i bought a polaris assault from Thin Air in truckee. shortly after they went out of business. i need some pre-season work done before snow hits the ground so ive been searching around for a new shop. sounds like adrenaline down towards sac is the most poo friendly but just out of curiosity has one had any positive experience with reno cyle and gear?
