Side panel...alumn. plate?

I had new panels from day one last year and they didn't come with the aluminum or foam either. After a full season of riding and laying it over on that side hundreds of times per ride there was not even so much as an inclination that the panel was being affected.

Oh and I did have the stock can, not sure if that matters or not.

I put a little melty spot on the inside my side panel without the shield or heat resistant material. There doesn't seem to be imminent doom with a stock can but there is a slight added risk.

The imminent doom is coming from the guys on IQ's who have no clue what they're talking about for the Pro. They are two different sleds PEEPS! I believe it to be a result of the pyramidal frame as I never had any issues on my Rev's either. Like S. Diddy said, I've had mine on it's side plenty last season and heat tape is all that's needed on a Pro.

Have FUN~!

I had the stock can for a while (now have HPS) and I removed the foam and plate. I did add the exhaust tape. I lay my sled over as much as the next guy and I didn't have issues. I did have one contact point where the tape would come off so I kept an eye on it. I think it is necessary to remove the foam no matter what because it holds water. I suppose you can add the plate back but I haven't had issues. Now I have the HPS can so it's not an issue at all.

Why?

Is it because you just can't accept a stock sled? Or, are you that good of a rider that an extra 8oz off the sled is what you need to reach that nebulous "next level".

Sheeeit...I added extra heat tape and I'm happy to be mediocre.

Knock yourself out homeskillet...melt your panel.

Removing the foam is not to save weight, it is to eliminate water logged foam from existence throughout the winter. We dried out the sleds in the enclosed and 2 weeks later when we pulled the foam off, there was some water present!!! Even after 2 weeks of being "dry" and multiple days over 40 degrees here in Utah .

This last picture, I closed to side panel as much as I could while still being able to take a picture showing the can.

i needed something to do while i was waiting for the snow so i pulled all the foam but i did heat tape the exhaust side panel and taped in the aluminum heat shield. stock can

Last thing and I'll shut up.

I've found the best technique for foam removal is to use a wide gasket scraper (not a razor though) and to pull the foam off the panels when they are freezing cold. It makes the glue not as sticky.

To remove the glue residue guys have found wrapping duct tape around their fingers and dabbing the residue with the sticky side works well. I used toluene.

You seem really upset that some of us choose to remove our foam from the panels. I'm not good enough of a rider so I need to lose the extra weight! :face-icon-small-sho

Thank you for clarifying what nebulous is, I thought it was a cloud.

Nebulous also means anything not clearly defined (like clouds), but I digress

I should not log on when I've been drinkin'. So for that post I apologize to the board.

Like any other sled mod decision: To foam or not to foam? To each their own.
