Sicamous avalanche

Anyone else hear about this? I just heard it on the news.....details are sketchy but apparently a sledder is missing? Anyone know what area?

For those of you not familiar with the area, Sicamous is about an hour from Revelstoke, and in the same general mountain range.

Fellas (and ladies) please be careful out there.

apparently on mara mtn sledded there many a mile, back of the lookout can be sketchy with lots of snow..3 buried only 2 made it out...search called off..does not look good...DAMN should only be riding meadows and trails right now..02

It was up owl head, waiting to hear more. Was just there yesterday staying in the trees, a small slide came down just at the end of morton lake yesterday. Hate to hear about these period and it seems to be happening every weekend. Be safe everyone!

Avalanche in B.C. backcountry traps snowmobiler; two others survive

ENDERBY, B.C. — At least one snowmobiler has been trapped by an avalanche in the British Columbia Interior.

The RCMP says three people were snowmobiling on Mara Mountain, northeast of Enderby, when the avalanche struck Sunday afternoon.

Two snowmobilers were able to get themselves out, but the pair had to leave a third person behind.

Vernon RCMP spokesman Gordon Molendyk says search-and-rescue teams have been sent to the area, and they'll assess whether it's safe to search on Monday morning.

The police aren't releasing any details about the missing man or the two survivors.

There have been 11 people killed in avalanches in the B.C. backcountry in the past several weeks, including eight snowmobilers buried late last month near Fernie.

Not good news at all.

i was up owls head today and at about 12:30 roughly, some guys came and told that a guy was burried in a avy. we headed over there probably 15 minutes after the slide and started searching. he didnt have a beacon.

he was stuck on the hill there was a big cornice above him that let loose.we spent about 3 hours probing the whole slide before we found him tangled up with his sled.

guys if you dont have a beacon, go buy one TOMORROW! the avy. risk is so high right now. i think he was about 24yrs old. i wont say any names because its still a little early.

please guys be careful, i sure hope i never have to go though a day like today again.

RIP

edit: we did get him out at around 4pm and there were 2 helicopters there.

Was that at the superbowl? Just above morton lake? Thats what i heard

Terrible to hear, but in all honesty if you were going to pick 1 weekend out of the last 10 years to stay home in southern BC.....this was the one.

The last thing I want to do is come off as a jackazz, but if you were voluntarily in any kind of avy terrain this weeked, you are either completely in the dark or just don't care.

All the coulda shoulda in the world doesn't fix it tho unfortunately....RIP

it just never gets any easier. The mountain wins again. Sounds like a beacon would have helped. :(

sympathy from the States for all involved. This NEEDS to stop. RIP Sledder.

Makes a dude sick to hear about this young fella, any fella for that matter.:brokenheart: RIP to our lost rider/sledder.

The signs are everywhere.......

See link below, that area on "High" this weekend. "High" AKA Dont Go !!!

PS. Dont just look at the Graph, have a quick read. "Experienced practitioners with 30 years of experience are saying this is an extraordinary snowpack not to be messed with."

Rip ta the rider, and 132 your a good man and yer efforts ta find the burried rider is appreciated.why the other riders leave?I'd never leave a buddy burried.I'd be back as soon as it was clear -Reeffzilla-

that might be easy to say but think of the avy in fernie..those guys HAD to leave them behind to save themselves...What good would it have done to try and dig out bodies and die yourself....think how YOUR wife and kids would feel???? I have seen 2 people die in an avy and its not an easy choice to leave

I understand ya have ta do what ya have ta do ta save yerself but when its clear ta go back go i'd be right there helpin ta find my buddy. My wife and kids want me ta come home at the end of the day and if there was a chance and no one came back... -Reeffzilla-

we did just that in mcbride for one but it still doesn't make it any easier sucks driving a body to the hospital!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm getting tired of posting this but here goes again.....
Prayers to the victim and his family!

When are guys gonna wake up and realize it doesn't just happen to someone else ??? Why can't people stay away from the hills for awhile ????
