Should moderators advertise ?

Boy if I said what I wanted on here...If I always said what I was thinking.....HAHAHAHA.
I used to question this a little at Snowmobilefanatics being a moderator over there at the same time I advertised on their site.
The hard part is to keep it totally separate.
I just didn't moderate on my own topics and didn't let either influence the other.
I'm still a moderator there.

I am not saying all moderators and yes it is discretionary, but I am thinking of a certain moderator whose name begins with a C in reference to a company in MN woes name begins with an S. Over one of many recent customer service complaints. Let's just say he dosen't know as much as he thinks he does!

I don't see where anybody mentioned any monetary reward? So I have no idea wtf you are talking about?
If you do not think they are paying full price, how isn't it a monetary reward?
At any rate, this whole thing is f#cking stupid, pointless and counter productive!!!!! I do believe a mod should steer this wayward ship off a cliff!
now I don't want anyone to take this the wrong way...but with what generally most people think of moderators, their support and sponsorship of products is more like a kiss of death...

Your post dosen't make sense? If one is paying full price for a product then they are not RECEIVING but GIVING there monetary reward away? Besides, the implication is that moderators receive monetary reward to moderate, which is BS! If this thread bothers you so much, then step out?
Personally, I do not have a problem with anybody promoting a product that works. By the same token, equal time should be given for a poor product or service!
But I do think that it happens to some degree on every type forum, that certain companies can and do give a break or favoritism for a positive promotion! Humans are greedy by nature!

As for the Moderators on SnoWest.
They are given the option of paying for their membership or receiving it free of charge in exchange for the tine and effort they put in. Its about 50-50 for who pays their own way and who doesn't. Thus far, since 2009, NO manufacturer has ever approached me about going after the moderators with special deals or incentives. NONE of them have ever reached out to us and said Hey, Have we got a deal for you!!
So far as I know we do not have a single factory "Sponsored" moderator on SnoWest. Everyone of us pays out of our own pocket for all the gear we buy and use, including myself. All of the Reviews and Installations I have done have been at my own expense.
One exception is the upcoming review of the BCA Link Radios. Much to my surprise when I ordered 2 of them, they sent them to me free of charge, but with a 60 day required return. If I fail to return them in 60 days, then I have to buy them. Assuming they perform as I have heard from several other SnoWest members, I have every intention of buying several of them.
Now, don't get me wrong, if Polaris or Ski-Do or Cat approached us and offered their sleds at 50% off, I am SURE they would win over some converts in short order, but SADLY I see NO signs of that happening
Only to the extent that the OWNERS of the site (Harris Publishing / SnoWest Magazine) set the policy and direction that they want the forum to follow.
That would be up to the Moderators of those forums.
I sent out a note to a few hundred members that were Yamaha forum participants. Not to all 85,000 members of SnoWest. If you got that note, and you are not a Yamaha enthusiast, then I apologize, but your name was listed as a participant in one of the most popular Yamaha threads.
