Should moderators advertise ?

Why not, they are buying the stuff with their own money just like any of us.

Should moderators advertise new products? Just don"t seem right.

I can see where you may think its a conflict. However, you have to realize most moderators are mods due to the fact they are heavily entrenched in the hobby. This only makes sense if someone is a serious sledder they will ultimately or possibly have a product or will absolutely be using products that are new to market.

So really, I have to say ..."why not?"

There are a lot of mods on here who give out good info. Do I agree with every thing the mods do on here? Hell no! Do I respect their position on these forums? Yes! They earned their spot here and are free to speak their opinions as you and I are. What is wrong with them giving their opinions on products they support? As MORSNO stated, they buy and test stuff on their own dime like every one else so where's the problem? Where are you going with this anyway? You can't even vote until you pay IMO!

Maybe? But I doubt they are paying full price?

I hardly ever pay full price... Most of the time if you ask almost ANY company, dealer, ect they will give you a discount. Believe me if you just ask they will give it to you 99% of the time, unless there is honesly very little mark up on the product. So no I doubt he is paying full price.

I agree with this. It all depends on the dealer and the volume of business you do with the dealer you are buying from. Personally, I like to support my local dealer and let he/she let me know what they will sell the product to me for and then buy it from them full well knowing the support I'll get from them for the long haul. If I am part of the reason my dealer isn't making a profit then I an part of the problem.

How so? Need your basis on this, not just an assumption or you have no case.

Let's just say that there are certain moderators on here that seem to have there nose up certain company's backsides a bit too far to not be getting some favoritism? That is not to say that if anyone finds a good product and shares, but on the same token a poor product and/or service does not get equal footing because the mods have never seen that behavior from company X? In other words, they only see one side of the coin by the position they hold as a mod because they are sitting in a favored position to promote a product!

I'd say there are more people on here who fit that description that are NOT moderators.

You missed the point because as a moderator you can interject your opinion into a thread and to a certain degree control the direction! Or shut it down entirely if it is not going the direction that one thinks it should?

I have no personal agenda for the direction of threads. They go where they go, as long and they remain appropriate within the acceptable use guidelines.

I was on this forum for 11 years before I became a moderator in 2009. I'm a sledder first.

Bhpete, I am on the same page as Scott here but I also want to point something out that none of you think of here. AS a mod you say we can steer a thread but you are thinking only in the positive. I can say that there are times I want to say...."THIS THING IS CRAP" but as a mod you refrain. I know I bite my keyboard more than just a few times around here and I am sure other mods do to. So in fact a premium user has more freedom of speech!!

This is just silly IMO. Even if a mod gets a better break than others so what? For what I've seen the mods put up with they deserve it IMO. Ive been offered the position and declined no amount of discount would be worth it.

Why wouldn't the MFGs go straight to the mods and admin. with new products etc. That's just smart business. Ive sold lots of stuff to mods and they pay just like everyone else.
