Should I buy an 11 Pro?

Never had a Polaris sled (I do have a 2012 RZR that has been rock solid through almost 4000 miles now though), always been on Arctic Cats or Doos. Now that the Pro chassis has come down to my price range ($5-6k), I'm seeing 2011s come up for sale. Most have 2000+miles but there have been some with 1000-1500 miles also.

I don't know much about these sleds, and unfortunately, I've seen and been with several that had issues on the snow (overheating, pull starter, steering broke, etc.). However, I'm not really scared off by that, as a whole, they still seem pretty solid. I'd like some info on the 2011s now that they've been around for awhile, would this be a good sled to buy used? What do I need to look for/watch out for?
 
Still a good sled at the right price, wouldn't recommend running any more than 1200 or so miles without doing pistons. Will probably need to look at shocks for rebuild or upgrade. Check the fuel filter and replace, I don't let mine go for more than 1000 miles. Tons of upgrade parts out there in the swap that will fit, bars, bumpers, bags, seats etc... Running boards on the 11/12's can use some help.
 
An under 1500 mile 2011 pro that's been well cared, no crashes, for 5.Xk US shouldn't scare you off. Plan a dropin piston kit into your budget, right away if it's creeping to 2000mi. I just won't pay much for a crashed up or higher mile 11 pro, just because you shouldn't have to. The Axys is driving prices of these even lower.

For about the same price, you should be able to score a newer/lower mi 600 Pro RMK. Don't know if you would consider the 6, but they are overachievers, they are down 20hp on the 8, but they really get around for a 600, lotsa snowability for the coin (I have both). Personally, that's what I'd do if I was in your price range for an RMK, since latest/greatest isn't expected or important to me at that price. Nobody can take anything away from the guy on a 3 year old 600 who keeps up with the latest 8's costing 2-3 times more. Even in the CO high country. Good luck.

I bought a 2013 600 in March for 6500, only had 500 miles on and its clean. You have plenty of time to be picky, an 800 with belt drive (2013) is very attainable for 7000 if you save for a few more months. And don't overlook the 600's, they are a ton of fun, and with a gear down and clutch work, you will be right with the 800's. have fun bud
 
Good info, thanks guys. I actually would consider a 600 since this might end up being ridden more by my wife anyway. Trying to get her more comfortable on tougher terrain (she's on an M6 as of now), and it sounds like the newer RMKs might be more manageable for someone like her.
 
then put a 660 kit in it and the deficit goes away just don't tell just kick butt

We had two 2011's. 155" and a 163" The 155" had approximately 2000+ miles and the 163" had well over 3000 miles we we sold them. We had no issues other than one exhaust temp sensor went bad. As others have said, they like the 600. Personally I won't go with the 600. Doesn't work for us. A drop in kit on the 800 is a good idea though. A friend of ours put one in his 2009 800 Dragon RMK. It ran better and smoother than my 2011 Pro. I think the kit was around $400????
 
I think you mean fix-it-kit for $400.00. Drop-in-kit is made by RK-Tek and actually drops the heads down in the cylinders slightly while also changing the port timing. They RK-Tek kit is a bit more than $400.00, but also a good option.

Sorry just clarifying things, not trying to be a one upper. :face-icon-small-coo
 
Kelsey/RKT has both a Direct Replacement Kit with lighter Wosner's, no change in port timing or head, just pistons, and also a Drop In Kit, pistons and head/different domes based on the fuel you want to run at altitude, that also alters port timing. I've run the Drop In Kit with two different sets of domes, as many others have, it does add some hp. Fueling changes depend on year for the Drop In Kit.
 
Thanks for the clarification guys. The Dragon just got new pistons, rings, and head gasket if I remember correctly. I know it was not Kelsey's kit. I was really surprised how much better the 2009 felt than my 2011. Smoother and a little quicker.
