anything stiffer than stock violet is wrong..the QRS doesnt need it...BJ
Not looking to start a fight but I disagree. The stock spring does not have enough side pressure causing the belt to slip in the secondary. Last year with stock secondary spring my belt would actually smoke while climbing in the spring snow. In the powder it was not as noticable because the track did not "grip" as much. Then was even more announced when doo geared it down (154) to a 19 tooth. It slipped even worse.
The yellow spring will slow the shift down and with the stock setup I am sure it's a disaster. The stock setup was stuck in first gear all the time anyway, so with the stiffer secondary spring I can imagine is might even be worse.
I went to the yellow spring kept the 42 helix went from 17gram of pin weight down to 14grams changed the ramp to a muccccchh more aggresive shift all the way through and it pulls and shifts like a mo fo. Still a little revy on the bottom but I am going to go try a 130/290 spring instead of the 160/310. Ran in clicker 2.
I can't say 100% that it's going to work but with the snow we had I made 4 pulls right in a row slowed down and worked the sled as hard as I could in 3' of snow and after the 4th pull I could hold onto the belt bare handed for as long as I wanted. It was warm but not like last year...were it leaves skin on the belt. Clutch was little warmer than the belt...
The ramps are proto ramps that had to be modified to fit the new tra. but the key is to get something that is much flatter...more aggressive the entire way through.
Best thing is I have no black marks on Primary or secondary and the belt never got the shiny glaze on it and I even helped tow a sled out.
IMO there are two big issues with stock setup. Primary does not shift. last year my sled with 19/45 gearing would pull on the trail to ~60mph and then just stop...felt like it ran into a wall. yesterday it pulled up to 70mph and was still pulling like a truck. Primary keep shifting now...
2nd the belt slipped in the secondary...not enough side pressure.
To each his own. I know so far mine runs much cooler than stock. Time will tell as we go more snow if it performes over the stock in the steep in deep. Not just enough snow yet to tell.
Also now that it runs cooler I am going to try the old 166 belt..it's softer compund and the clutches "bite" it alot better than the new one. The new belt is a little shorty but the main thing they did is made a different compound belt that would stand the heat better instead of fixing the issue that was causing the heat.
