I'm gonna be in Vegas next week....Randy is a world class wrestler, I'm a small town wrestling coach...why not try to stop by and get some pointers right?

So I got on his website and sent a note.

LOL.

>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hi,

My name is Scott and I am the wrestling coach at a very small high school in Florence, MT. We have about 260 kids in our high school and this season we had our largest wrestling team ever with 24 kids. We won one of the 4 divisional titles this year, the first ever for our school with 5 champions.

I'm going to be in Las Vegas next week (Tues March 31 to Friday morning, April 3rd). I would love to know if Randy is in town and if he's doing any workouts those days. I'm not an MMA fighter by any means but naturally I am a huge fan of the sport. I'd like to know how open or public workout sessions are. Can anyone schedule an appointment to get instruction or a workout? I'm looking for some specific aspects of wrestling that I'd like to take back to my team and work on. I teach my kids that 75% of wreslting matches are won on their feet. You have to be good on your feet. I have a lot of things that I've learned over the years, but I don't really feel that the our team is the best team on our feet. We can always do better.

I attend summer wrestling camps each summer with my team and after winning the team title at our Divisionals for the first time, we want to repeat that again next year. I am really looking to take my team to the next level and finish with some hardware from that the State Tourney next year. In my 9 years of being a head coach I have coached 3 matches in the state championships, though we've never had a champion. This year on our team of 24, we had 19 freshman and sophomores. It's time for a state champion.

I don't know how it would work out to meet Randy or get a wreslting workout in with him as I know his time is precious and probably quite used up. Randy, I hope you are able to read my email and get a chance to respond to it. If not, I certainly understand the demand on your schedule and the amount of fan mail you must receive is probably quite daunting and it's not likely you are able to answer every letter you get.

Always a fan of The Natural
Thank you very much,
Yours in wrestling,

Sincerely,

Scott

I get this cordial response back this morning...

Scott,

Thank you for your interest in Randy. Unfortunately Randy is traveling all week and won't be around.
You are more than welcome to come by the gym. We are open to the public. You can get a day pass for $25
or you can book a private lesson with a coach for $150/hr.

We hope you are still able to make it by our facility.
Best Regards,

I just sent him a letter that said:

Scott from Florence

Mine said:

Dear Randy, I really wanted to roll around on the mat with a big guy instead of all these little boys. Thanks for nothing Ahole!

I was in Vegas last fall and we went by his gym. After finding it( his wife's salon next door is a little more well marked) we walked in. The place was eerily quiet, however a lady came out and asked us if she could help us. We told her we were just fans, would like to look around, but would leave if it was a bad time. She said no problem, and pointed us toward the "pro shop". We asked if Randy was around, she said he was extremely busy training as this was 6 days before his (unfortunate) loss to Brock Lesnar. While looking through T shirts, my buddy (facing me) all of a sudden clammed up. I turned around and there was Randy! Well for a busy guy he sure was accomodating, no problem posing for pictures and signing T shirts. I asked if I could take a picture with me in a headlock , he laughed and said "You sure?". Well after slapping me in a rear naked choke, he laughed at my friend and said "not a good time for your friend to be slow with the camera". My friend responded "good time to tell Randy that you think he's a goof!". Anyway, Randy laughed, great picture, nice guy. We asked if we could take pictures in the gym and he told us no problem, but do it quickly as there was a group about to start training. Walked into the gym and straight into Forrest Griffin! Another nice guy, asked where we were from, told him the name of the town and he new exactly where it was in Canada. Asked us lots of questions and answered all of ours. A quick introduction to Junie Browning (even though they weren't supposed to tell us anything as the Ultimate Fighter show hadn't finished airing.) made the visit complete. I say go there, be respectfull, and get your self a souvenir. You never know who will be there. Ran into Rampage Jackson the next day at SEMA, he's a lot smaller then he looks.
