pay a bunch to have them done, then they put a copyright them?

yes they are only seniors once but really? how much do you need to make off 1 person?

People will do anything to make a buck. I do understand pro photograpghers copyrighting their work...but school pictures are a little much. The way I see it, is that you've paid for the pictures so you should be able to do what you want with them.

This is nothing new. You had to have known this prior to. Read the fine print, hell read the print. It is usually spelled out right there.

Biggest waste of my parents money I was party to.

Still have a bunch of those things sitting around somewhere, want one?

Just not sure why you a complaining when you knew in advance.

Again, stating a fact, pointing out something maybe someone not at that point of life is not aware of?
I did know. I did know the price, i knew they are expensive, did know they are copyrighted.....

:peace:

Get a good scanner. Scan them. Use a photo editor, customize them the way you like, save the files and go to WalMart to print them. You can do it just by plugging an SD card into the machine and clicking print. You can also make 8x10s to give to the grandparent, aunts, uncles, girlfriends, etc...

I have done this with my boys portraits when I didn't feel like spending hundreds of dollars on a few photos. I plan on taking my own boys' future portarits myself, now that I have a really nice camera.

Photographers are like used car salesmen. They like to talk up "extra" features and then sell them at a premium, when in fact it just takes a click of a button to make the feature.

I could care less myself, but just know that doing that is illegal. Again, I don't care but at least know the risks.

Yeah, so is speeding but we all do that.

Only if you use the photos (copies) for personal financial gain. And I seriously doubt the Feds are gonna arrest me for giving an 8x10 to the grandparents.

I don't think it is during personal financial gain only.. It is similar with professional wedding photo's. Though you can have the photographer sign waivers for you that release their copyright for you.

When I was in the p o r n biz they didn't want us sending free copies to our grandparents & such.

The photographer doesn't actually put a "copyright" on it. Anything done by a person that is considered "creative" is basically copyrighted automatically. It is illegal for another person to use or copy this product (whether it be photos, paintings, sculpture, whatever) without written and signed consent from the creator. Is it BS? Maybe. But that's the way I understand it. I think this is the case because my wife was just giving a cd with the edited pics to her customers, and when they went to have them printed, they couldn't do it without my wife's signature.

Apparently my wife hasn't figured out that photographers make their money honking the customer on the prints, not the actual taking of the pictures. Or maybe she's just too damn nice.

And don't forget, this is the kind of crap that they finally nailed Al Capone with...couldn't get him on any REAL crime. Copyright crime is federal as well. Similar to the stuff that has put people away for years in the music/video end of things. And they do have to make a living too. I have a few family friends that used to do this but were unable to continue as the market has essentially bottomed out. We all hate to spend dough when it isn't on fun stuff, but hey, it is a one time deal...I hope. At least it was for me!
