I've been asked to list our club's snowcat on Ebay.... I have only bought off of ebay so I wasn't sure when I was asked what the cost's would be??

Is it just the price of the add (pictures, words, etc.) Or do they also take a percentage on top of that?

I'm assuming a Bank Cheque would be the best thing for an item like this to avoid pay pal fee's...??

Can anybody offer me any advice before I make up the ad for the snowcat??

We are hoping to get $12,500 USD for the Tucker.

Another dumb question...?? What size should I shrink all of the pictures down to before starting the Ad for the Club??

Yep they get a percent. Also include shipping in the add. Make sure the buyer knows they will be responsable for any and all shipping. State that you will not take bids over seas if you are not willing to ship there. Add that '0' rep people will be reviewed before the bid is accepted and that you have the right to refuse bids for what ever reason. Probably require a paypal down payment non refundable after auctions end. Basically cover your self for any scammers.

heres the seller fees on an auction..

Equal to or Over $1000.01
8.75% of the initial $25.00 ($2.19), plus 3.50% of the initial $25.01 - $1,000.00 ($34.12), plus 1.50% of the remaining closing value balance($1000.01 - closing value)

If your club is non-profit (must have IRS paperwork) you might contact E-bay and see if they will let you sell it for no or reduced fees. I think they do that a lot for different non-profit groups.

Thankyou for the fast reply's!!!!

Thankyou all for the fast reply's!!!!! Thankyou for the links and for the information so I didn't have to start working on the ebay ad and find out something unexpected after doing all of that work!!!

I will find out if we have the paperwork to declare ouselves as a non profit organization...?? I think we are but I'm not 100%

I just shrunk all of the photo's sent to me down to 640x480 not sure if the cost is any different on size but I figured the smaller the more I can post on the ad.....??

Thanx again Fella's!!!!

Snowest to the rescue again!!

right now ebay motors only charges insertion fees if you don't sell it. if you do sell it the final value auction fees are about 120 dollars.so plan on 130 dollars or so in the end.

host the pics on a server, and put them in the description as HTML images and there are no picture charges. See my example here then you can size them as big as you'd like.

i do the same thing. when i put a car or bnike on there i usually post 60 to 100 pictures.. no charge, nicer layout and you can put as many as you like. yor not limited to 24 pics..

A couple of general things. I usually require $500 or so within 3 days for a deposit. I accept paypal for this. The rest is cash or bank check or wire transfer.

Be somewhat leary of bank checks, they can be faked. I usually ask the person for the name and number of their bank and verify they have an account there. I look the number up seperately to make sure I'm not calling Joe Shmoe and he is in on the scam. Also Ebay should show you their address when they win. Make sure it matches (I did have one phone area code not match his address, but the guy just moved and still had his cell phone on the old number). A copy of their drivers license is also a good idea.

I have also done loan closings with local guys who buy the vehicle with a bank loan.

Make sure they know they have to pick it up and you will not deliver unless you make arrangements otherwise.

Also, if someone offers you more for the machine and says, just wire them back the difference - run away!! It's a scam using conterfeit checks.
