Seeking some ideas

Seeking some ideas, Riding the southwest ?

I realize this is open to a great deal of opinion but I am on a mission………………….

If you had to choose a place in south west portion of the state to base your snowmobiling out of where would it be and far more important why ?

I have been researching this topic very heavily and have looked at:

South Fork, Pagosa, Wolf Creek. Seems to have a great deal of snow ? Decent areas to ride.

Lake City. not sure on

(Gunnison and Irwin are out of my price range, add Taylor to the list.

Pitkin didn’t do much for me, seemed to be a nice little town just doesn’t get the snow.

Grand Mesa ? Havent looked at too much. has snow

Silverton area, is a bit on the edge of being to far but still possible

I am trying to find something that is well rounded. Has good snow, decent season length, mixed recreation for summer use, not overly surrounded by wilderness, affordable (Yeah thats funny I know).

I guess I am not opposed to looking to the north either I just don’t know anything about the areas up north ?

Throw me your thoughts its just a wild dream…………………:(

Thanks

Pagosa Springs, Chama. Not sure about the prices on Real Estate. I think any recreation area may be pricey. But I would check on those areas. Pagosa area is where I would like to be.
4.5 months till sleddin....:D

Yep Would say Pagosa too. You have Chama, Wolf creek and a ton of other great riding close by.

Build an extra room for me and my sled....

Well yeah..........thats a given :beer;

From what I can tell anyways (never been there) it seems like most of the riding areas are accessed from the south fork side ? Chama while I have heard great things about I know nothing about ?

I am planning some trips this winter, its a must !

I too don't know much about real estate in the Chama area but I can tell you that the riding around there is awesome. Has been our playground for many years. Cumbres Pass always has good snow.

Charles, Check out the bigtreeman on here. He lives in Pagosa Springs or has a place up there. I have been invited down this winter for a tour with the locals. Sounds like they ride the same kind of stuff we do........why does my sled smell like pine trees?

I guess where I am confused is which Chama ? Theres a Chama in Colorado near San Luis and one in New Mexico ? Cumbres is on the to do list this winter !

I like where your heads at ! I will give him a shout. I might be going out on a limb here but I have a feeling that fresh pine smell isnt coming from your oil:eek: Then again it does have a touch of aspen to it too..........:rolleyes:

I'd say check into:

- Tincup ( http://www.pitkincolorado.com/Steckel/details.php?id=78 )
- Silverton (Molas Pass is hard to beat!)
- South Fork (Wolf Creek nearby)

Keep in mind that the cost of improving land vs buying already an easily build able parcel can quickly erase the affordability gap.

MD.

If Tincup would work out I would do it in a heartbeat. I love the area, turns out what little of it is left everyone else loves too!

I have never been to Silverton in the winter, I like the looks of Molas Pass as well as red mountain/guston. The little wilderness in the area is a perk too (Well at least for now).

I did the math and its a extra 7 miles difference to get to South fork vs. Crested butte. add 51 and your in Pagosa. I am sure the time factor of getting over wolfcreek pass is a bit more then it seems.

Bottom line at this point is this, I am going to get out a whole lot more this year and see some new areas! Road Trip :):beer;
