Secondary Clutch Problem

WELL?..came out nice huh?.....

That's the cleanest that clutch has been since it left the factory. The belts are a lot more pliable as well..

One serious question.. should all the rollers spin real freely. Some spin and are not touching any part of the helix and others are touching the helix. I can turn them but they don't spin real easy because they are touching the ramp of the helix. It sure doesn't seem like the clutch would have stuck because of them if I can spin them with my finger..

I am going to throw it in the sled tomorrow and see how the wash job did.. Just wanted to know about the roller deal.. Never had to deal with them before so I don't know what I should expect with how freely they should spin.

Oh, the washer is fine and the gas/oil smell is gone or I got used to the smell and mama is going to walk in tomorrow morning and ask were the oil/gas smell is coming from..

every belt....might ride sunday if tim gets us some snow..but I do have the kids..sorry for drifting your thread doug....

No problem Mike it kept my mind off of the dishwasher :

Mike, What happened to your sled??????:confused:

valuable info in this thread:D

As odd as this may sound it really was.. I think there are a lot of stupid little tricks that guys and gals know, like the dishwasher trick, that could save someone a lot of time.. In this case, make sure the wife is gone, pop it in the dishwasher and walla.. Didn't have to rip the clutch apart to get it clean.. Heck, the belts are nice and pliable just like they are broken in. Crazy stuff.

nothing wrong with my sled doug..polaris released a new ecm map so need to swing it by the dealers and get it loaded on..but mines good to go..the reason you wash the belts is to get all the mold release off them..I also think the high heat helps limber the belts up...it sure helps...

Doug, You may have found your problem with your secondary. The fact that 1 roller is touching the helix and not all 3 suggest to me that your bushings in the sheave are worn allowing it to shift thus only one roller contacting the helix. Yes, we do fling some bs around, but some of these old farts have been around a sled a time or two. Sounds like Ryan is home, drag his butt over there and have him give you a hand. Atleast an eye to take a look at that while you have it apart.

Well, problem solved.. The shaft of the sheave was a little rusted and needed a good cleaning off with some fine sand paper.. Snaps shut like new and thanks Ryan for the secondary 101 class.

Thanks to everyone for the help on my primary and secondary issues. I learned a lot. I am going to get a spider removal tool and a couple other tools so I can take these things apart and clean them up each year.. Interesting stuff and you saved me some cash down the road since I can clean them up myself now..

The dishwasher trick came off without a hitch.. Wife never said a thing.. :p

Thanks again and Snowester's kick a$$!

either dissemble it and clean it by hand with a scotch brite and brake clean or run it through the dish washer in one piece.

I have often thought that any mans complete garage needs and an oven and dishwasher.

The oven to heat soak large stuff (like axle c's and stuff) and dishwasher for the aforementioned clutch and belt cleaning.

In reality it only takes one complete *** chewing and it would have paid for itself a few times over! Just no aprons, and it will still be a manly corner of the house...

Speaking of newbie, I took the M7 out tonight for a spin around the block.. She rips! Clutched very well... So, the story goes I came up on one of those snow piles that the plow makes.. You know the ones, they get hard as a rock after a warm spell then a freeze up. So, I ease up to it and think to my self, the clutching on this is awesome.. I can just smash the flipper and take some air with me.. So, I look both ways to make sure that there are no cars coming... position my self for flight on my new M7 that is clutched to the hilt and wham! I smash the flipper.. Well, that thing took off like Michael Jackson at a day care.. Up and over and sideways.. Son-of-a-*****! my foot slipped off the running board and down I go.. Not to be embarrassed by falling off the sled I hold on for dear life while the sled is dragging me along.. The reasons it's dragging me along is I have my paw on the flipper! Christ, that's not to smart so I let go and the sled and I come to an abrupt stop.. My son who just moved up here this past fall is behind me.. he pulls up and asks me if I am alright and have I ridden much since I got up here in 08? Shut-up kid..

You gotta be able to laugh at yourself.. right..

You can't have an M7 son.. you'll dislocate your shoulder son...

So what is your son doing next weekend? Maybe Me and my son will take him out for a little ride since you will be busy. :D Glad to hear nothing was broken other than your pride. Then again, after last winter, I wouldn't think you would have much of that left LOL
