Secondary Clutch Problem

Well, my primary is back in business but something is wrong with the secondary. I use a oil filter wrench to take off belts. It works great, turn and the secondary opens up like a prom date. The problem is that is does NOT CLOSE.. It stays stuck open until I hit the flipper and it closes but it's not very happy about it. I found this while I was adjusting the deflection. I have one of those aluminum deflection adjusters..

So, anyone have an idea on were to start looking for the problem? I figured you guys were so helpful with the primary problem I'd give you a shot at my secondary problem :D

It's an 06 Crossfire 600 and Adrenalin, I won't ask you to run out here again. Unless of course Angie is hungry for some Arby's

Pretty normal not to close when you wedge the belt in there. If it opens and closes fine with a belt off I wouldn't worry.

Once you get the belt on and drive it 20 feet is the secondary closed?

It doesn't close with the belt off. . Stay's stuck open.

Is the spring binding?

Yep, check the spring. Could be binding or broken, could be the bushing :D Could also be a stuck roller but I doubt it.

Edit: CJ beat me to the roller idea, definitely worth a look, if you can't come up with anything obvious pull it off and take it apart and clean it. It never hurts and it'll make it easier to inspect.

I've seen some of the ski-doo qrs driven's loose the rollers and stick like that. But now I see he's on a Cat, so I'd start with the above suggestions first.

I just began wrenching or attempting to wrench when I moved up here last year so I am not real good at knowing what to look for. So, now that my ignorance is out there..

How do I tell if the spring is binding?

You will never learn if you don't ask right? :o

Does the sled have reverse? I have seen some Doo roller secondary's take some time to go back to equalibriam after opening the sheeves up usually when a reverse helix is used non reverse it should snap shut. I have seen this with good non dented rollers.

Nope the 06's M's and Crossfires had the Act Drive and no reverse.

Alright, am tying to get the secondary off. It's stuck on there pretty good.
I have it soaking in PB Blaster right now.

I did look at the rollers and they all spin freely except for one which is stuck and won't move. Should all the rollers spin without any resistance? I can't feel any flat spots but its a little hard to do with the helix on.

They are are the plastic rollers.. I am going to replace the rollers so should I get a set that's not plastic?

Since I am going to have the secondary apart anyways is there something else I should replace?

Here's the deal.. Got the secondary off.. It was sitting there stuck open with no belt on it.. As soon as I yanked it off it slammed shut like it should. I checked the rollers better and they seem good, no flat spots, the spin freely etc.

I am thinking it just needs a good cleaning. Should I take this thing apart and clean it up good with dish washing liquid and water or is there some other magical elixir I should use?

Did it get yours fingers like a mouse trap??? LOL. There is something going on in there that is causing it to hang up Doug. Open it up and check it out. Clean it up good with dish soap and water. Bet you have bad bushings in there as well.

I use carb cleaner or brake cleaner and a green scotch brite pad.
