A trick that helps save your scratchers is to mount them so the spring end sits on top of the rail instead of in a hole. This way if you back up the scratcher will just rotate around instead of bending.
Sorry no pic, I still have mine mounted the normal way.

reversing scratchers

I got these from a guy in Whistler. They have much higher odds of surviving reverse. Works great on hard pack. Still risky in the powder.
They're simular to most scratchers out there and won't chip up your skid like the cable ones...
