salt lake area riding recommendations?

Salt Lake Area. We like to do the normal tree riding and some hillclimbing. Looking for recommendations for riding ideas. Seems like they have riding complexes, are they open terrain, on trail only. Some dont seem to have real large trail systems and not sure on off trail access.
Is there lots of places that sell the out of state permits? I only found one listed.

Any other tips is appreciated
Thanks

There are tons of areas close to Salt Lake. In every area you can stick to just the groomed trails all day or use the trails to get to the back country. It all depends on what kind of riding you want to do and if you need to rent sleds and a guide.
If you are looking for sleds and lodging and a guide a good place to look is Daniels summit lodge.

If you are bringing your own mountain sleds and have the proper avalanche equipment there are allot of us willing to show you around our top seceret areas. :smow: :biggrin1:

As far as permits I think you can get them at any Maverik gas station. I may be wrong. Maybe some one can clarify if I am.
Hope this helps.

If we get to were bringing our sleds 06 162 1000, and a 00 700 151, both skidoos, we have probes, beacons, shovels.
We like trees and hillclimbs our average days ride is around 40miles.
The maps just dont say if all the area is open for cross country.
We want to bring the sleds insted of a car and sking, Be there sun, mon and tues
Mavericks is the place I seen listed
thanks

Where coming from? Do you have to stay in salt lakecity? There are alot of places you could stay thats closer to sledding

Were coming from South Dakota, My mom has a conference in Salt Lake so me and my son thinks its a good excuse to come sledding and sking there. Always wanted to. Of course were hoping to go back up and ride the Star Valley area and over to Togwotee on the way back.
Looks like lots of riding with in 60 miles of Salt Lake.

If you have to stay in salt lake city for the conference, I'd probably do the Mirror Lake riding area or the Daniel's summit /strawberry trail systems. Both have groomed trails to access the backcountry. You can probably get trail maps on line. Best would be if you could get a guide.
