Running RICH HELP

Ok so have been fouling plugs...tonight put in new plugs (ngk) and put in a litre of oil. I ran less then half a tank of fuel and used that litre of oil...seems rich to me...didnt change anyhting from last year.

I do have the aftermarket oil cable but like i said i didnt change anything over the summer....could the cable have stretched..messing up the mixture??

is it hard to adjust??\\

seals bad on the crank possibly. Did it drain the oil down to where the hose comes off the side of the bottle?

flip your throttle a few times while watching the oil pump and see if it is returning all the way. my guess is your pump is sticking half open.

Oil Mystery

seals bad on the crank possibly. Did it drain the oil down to where the hose comes off the side of the bottle?

Z-man my 900 Fusion was using as much oil as described above. I did find the oil pump sticking open and I was able to lubricate the cable and getting it moving until I get the FBF Cable. BUT, what would be another sign of bad seals on a crank.

Is there any other tell tale signs? I am still seeing a more oil use than I should

I'm going to have to let Biggdawg, Guidoxpress, or Mountainhorse chime in on that. I'm not sure all the signs but I know that if they are leaking oil will pretty much free flow into the engine from that hose and the level in the tank will drop in a few miles right to the hose. After that your oil consumption should drop to normal but I'm not sure how safe it is to ride it like this. You might risk losing the crank bearings.

Of course always check to make sure your pump is not stuck first but even if it is stuck wide open I'm not sure it would be able to dump the amount of oil you are talking about through your engine.

ok i will check the pump today....anyone else please chime in also...really hope the seals arent going....will i need to take it in for a leak down test to the dealer....can i run it like this????

might be time to part with the fusion :(

anyone else

i would of coarse check the oil pump lever and make sure its returning all the way....spray some lubricant on the spring and try again.

if the oil drains fast in the oil bottle and then slows down ONCE it hits the hose coming from the side of the oil tank to the center of teh cylinders and into the fitting just above the oil pump, the center crank seal could be out..its not common but can happen for sure.

indydan is the original person that pointed this out..

watch the oil use again after the pump lever/spring is lubercated and the line on the oil pump is set correctly..

ride the sled again, and see if the oil stops draining fast after the hose...

keep up posted...

what should i use to lubricate the line with?? Going to clean it tomorrow and then try a ride to see what happens

The line on the tank in the middle that goes to the centre of the cylinders, what does this do??

FInally worse case scenario and lets say it does drain down quick again....is there any other test i can get done to find out if the crank seal is gone without tearing it down??

What would be the rough cost of repairing this?? Is it going to be worth it? Should i just get rid of the sled?

I really have no faith in the sled anymore, I am not willing to travel far on it or out by myself, it really cuts into riding and put a damper on it thats for sure

For Lubricant use a teflon based...The OEM cable has a plastic covering that can easily get mucked up if there is a heavy oil based lubricant. Fat Boy Frenchy cable is a good fix for a worn OEM cable. Also look for the spring modification mentioned earlier

I had the same exact problem...wicked oil use. I found the oil pump sticking open. I am now still evaluating oil use. I have watching the oil reserve to see it there is a possible bad crank seal.

The 900 can require more work for some but once you get the engine solid you will have an excellent and powerful machine.

I am learning everyday from these guys.

ok did some more searching on the site here.....also was mentioned that the oil level could just drop sitting in the garage not running if the seal is out...

topped up the oil this am....so far hasnt moved from where i put it.

when my crank seals went out it took a couple of days for it to start going down, after 2 weeks it was half way down to the hose

when not running it took 2 weeks for it to go down in the tank.....hmm ok

Well i have it all apart... the pump didnt appear to be stuck open but also doesnt return fully back ..when i put it back together all i need to do is line up the two marks to have the oil pump set correctly? I am also going to try putting a pen spring on the line like i think dicsodan did...

Any

Everyone needs to remember that the oiler arm can stick with the FBF cable too. The FBF fixes the frayed stock oiler cables, and makes for easy throttle body removal, but if your pump sticks... it will still stick.

Yes, lining up the marks will get you back to the factory setting. Yup that's me with the pen spring, works great.

so can you guys explain exactly what this line does and why the oil goes down it?/ I am getting abit confused??

Also found this post...sound similar

The line is the lube supply to the cross shaft cavity, which is separated from the rest of the crank case. Anytime your oil reservoir is filled above the level where that line attaches to the reservoir.... lube gets to the cross shaft cavity. If the center crank seals are good, it will hold enough lube until you fill the reservoir again. If the center crank seals are leaking, this lube escapes into the rest of the crank case, being burned by the engine. When this happens, you will use oil at a high rate until the level in the reservoir is below where this line attaches to the reservoir.... at that time oil usage will return to normal, but your cross shaft is now running without lube.
Clear as VES Gold? lol

ok so went for a ride the other day, found that i used almost 1 lt...right to around where the supply line comes off for the cross shat for just over 1/2 tank of fuel. Was home at that pint so didnt notice if the oil useage went back to normal or not after that.

Could that supply line have a leak in it?? BUt with that amount of oil leaking would i see it all over?? I do see black oil dripping onto the throttle bodies from the y pipe.

So i guess i ask now what to do? Are there any other tests to try? Do i try replacing that line to make sure that isnt leaking first? Can that line be re-routed with a different line around the engine??

If i need to do the centre seals, can someone give me an idea of what i can looking at repair wise? should i be thinking of getting rid of this sled?

oh ya after getting a new fuel cap...gas tank is still leaking...grrrr
