Run your car on water???

no, it has not been done, sorry. If it were possible, the rest of the non-oil and non-automotive industries would have rushed to this free fuel. It would be oil and automotive against the world...sorry they would not win...Water is fairly inert and low in energy. That is why they use it to fight fires. You can get hydrogen from it, but that is still a relatively inefficient process that would burn more fuel than it would yield. Right now the best way to make hydrogen is to strip hydrogen off of hydrocarbon molecules. By the way, that is exactly what your combustion engine does too. Oxygen strips the hydrogen off of the carbon of a hydrocarbon and combines with them to make water, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide...of course there is a bit of unburned fuel in the mix and nitrogen in the atmosphere makes some other compounds...

Jewlers have been using browns gas for years and years, nothing new.

Right, but will it work on inproving fuel mileage. That seems to be the premise of this right?

Please elaborate. If it improves fuel mileage by 40-50% then it sounds like something to pursue. Will it work in a car?

Heres the problem
Even if they came out with a way to convert straight water to hydrogen, they wouldn't be allowed to sell it unless your car is designed to run on it.

Why??

It is illigal to convert, change or modify your cars engine to run on anything other than what it was manufactured to run on. Thus sayit the EPA.

You can't run your car or convert your car with out EPA authorization. The EPA says the modification to the engine must result in as clean or cleaner emissions than when the vehicle was make and certified by the EPA.
Currently there is only one company that is trying to get EPA apporoval to sell E-85 conversion kits. The other problem is, they would have to get EPA approval for each different kind of car. So a conversion kit for a 350 Chevy won't be allowed to be put on a 327 chevy.

As for hydrogen, they have a process that will make the hydrogen right in your fuel tank using an electrified extraction process. Problem, how do you keep it from freezing? As soon as they add any kind of chemical to keep the distilled water from freezing the efficiency of the system goes down the tubes. They have a hydrogen research facility working on how to do it right now and it has huge priority (oh, I guess I should mention that this facility is at my place of work).

If they came out with a hydrogen system that worked great and tomorrow I think you would see the auto industry demand instant approval to sell and or install conversion kits. The big 3 in the US have invested HUGE in E-85 believing it was the future according to the Feds.

Hydrogen from water is possible, but the energy required for the process is not worth the amount hydrogen generated. I have hydrogen from water generator in my lab at work. It is only capable of generating about 100-200 cc/min of hydrogen. The amount of hydrogen required to run car would be a factor of 100-1000 if not more, not to mention the purity of water that is required to keep the cells clean. At present this would not be an option with regular tap water. Also is the where would you get the required energy to start and sustain the process from. Its great in theory and is plausible, but the costs far out way the ends, for now. I have no doubt this may be a future fuel sorce as technologies evolve, but not now and definetly not from the under 150 dollar schemes advertised. The generator I am using cost close to 20 thousand.

dont run your car strickly on hy, just use it to aid your gasoline.

Gas is cheaper than water.....

Water cost's a couple dollars/liter in the store..... Gas cost's less...... Go figure hey.....

Just something to think about..... If they ever go into production, water will cost so much more..... War's would be over water....... Crazy!!!!

This is pretty crazy I've heard of this similar thing like from like two different people in the last week. I didn't see it myself but there was supposedly something on the local news about a guy building a system for his car for $1200 that substantially increased his mileage. Naturally I'm skeptical but would love to learn more.

actually the process is being looked at for home heating, the hydrocarbon water thing, hotwater applications using electricity to do the process etc...l havent got a clue how it supposed to work or if it ever will its just cooffee shop talk from a intelligent plumber that had read or researched something on it...but probably along way off if ever..anyway yea good point that was made that water is already more expensive then fuel...there is an answer out there somewhere for us...probably a simple one when it happen..the old kiss system...keep it simple stupid...we can only hope
