Rode the 800 Dragon and XP 800 yesterday!!!

Anyone had a chance to make a good comparison with the new M8?? Its pretty cool to have some real options these days. Brand loyalty is at an all time low for me right now and the only thing keeping me loyal is my dealer. Kind of frustrating as I have dealers for all major brands right in town, but buy my sleds from a small dealer 150km's away. The owner actually rides, and dosent always wait for the manufacturer to fix things.

I know this is a d8 thread but I have the 700 and the wife has the 600 both 155.Have stayed away from WE shocks so no d8 this year.Anyway......The guy & his wife that we have ridden with for years have xp's 154's.
Here in Washington there has been some bottomless powder in a few areas and we found it.
Being PRO polaris since 1990 I admit, but open minded.
That xp just gets up on top of the snow easier than the rmk.The rmk likes to trench alittle. This is just boondocking type of riding.Power wise you can't compare and I'm not. Handeling wise in the fluff..... They both are great.
I'm not saying it has enough positive points for me to buy over a Polaris but enough for me to take a long look at next year .

Can't say I've ridden an M8. Although i'd like too!

They do have a little less power and a little more weight (on paper) so they might not work as well as the Xp or D8.

Just got the new Supertracks mag and they seem to love the M8, more then the M1000.

I don't know......

Let me help you out here Phatty.... shocks are for the trail, belts (ie-clutching) are critical for powder and climbing.... hmmmm

ah yes... i will say i love my polaris for climbing, but then its not exactly stock either... but for 300 miles on the belt and looking like i will get at least another 200 out of it, thats awesome considering the power output to the clutches, i was not expecting more than 200-250 miles per belt.

I will say though that those XPs are climbing goats... the 146 i have does some impressive things... its just nerve racking to know that at any second the belt could XPlode underneath you...

We have a 08 M8 in our group... its not stock (head, pipe, can, and set up by Vohk) but its a ripping sled for sure...

M sleds are weird to me....they ride like arse on the trail, and they feel slow although when you race them it's closer than you'd think by riding each individually. To feel anything even close to Rev comfort levels, you'd need a very tall seat and bar riser before leaving the dealership. They work fine in the powder and would be the easiest to a lighter rider to carve. Problem for me is....no fun factor. The skis are glued to the ground, damn near impossble to double up any whoops....they keep chugging through the deep snow but there's no sense of speed. Stock vs. stock that is.

I have not ridden a dragon 8 yet but I like the IQ chassis. As soon as I get my letter of apology from Tom Tiller for how bad they pooched me on the 900 RMK I might look at them again.

It seems that a lot of people who ride the REV (non-XP) for an hour or so don't like the handling. The problem is that unless you ride one for 300 miles you don't really get a feel for it and it doesn't feel comfortable. I rode an XP last weekend and felt right at home since I have been on the rev for thousands of miles.

Time will tell.

The Yamaha Nytro handles awesome. I think it will change a lot of people's feelings about the 4 strokes.

Really?? My 07 rev felt awesome within about 30 miles and every ride it gets better....coming off an 01 rmk

I felt comfortable pretty fast on the rev also. I think it was mostly because I was used to riding the Pro-X's and we had them set up with our weight as far forward as possible.

It just seems that most people's initial response is dislike until they can get some time in the saddle without switching back and forth.

Just got home from four days in valemont riding both bone stock 155 and 154 xp and dragon. Dragon was untouched, xp had the clutches cleaned and deflection adjusted. The d8 has a very smooth engine but seems a little flat on the topend. The weather kinda sucked but there was good deep snow, jumping from one to another on the same hill the dragon would never out climb the doo. This was out of the box to out of the box. Neither sled would come close to my D@D m9. but i liked both chassis, they make the m cat feel wide and low.
I think doo should have left about 10 pounds in this sled as i feel the d8 chassis will prove to be more durrable in the long run. Did not have handwarmer or belt issues on the xp at 180 klicks, 20 of which were pulling the m9 down from climina after it snapped a spider on the primary. As usual i think the best tuner will have the strongest runner.
MY 2 cents for what its worth.

I thought the same thing riding the two sleds. The doo seemed to pull a little harder but maybe the track was hooking up better. The Poo engine is smoother but it has that fron heavy feel after coming off the doo. Both 163 tracks.

I'll keep the doo!
