Mech Engineer... today is my Humble Pie day.
You make an excellent point... There is no way to tell if the SPi-group's front mounts are from the same supplier as the OEM...
AND.. Full retail on the mounts from Polaris is $47 with a street price of around $40... so that actually makes the factory ones less expensive.
I double checked the parts and the 2005 number has been superseded to the 2006 part number for the front mounts... so the 2005's are no longer available.
If you find them with that part number on them... make sure to get the 2006 part number.
I'm really surprised that your mounts are not torn, were you able to lay them over in a vise like the photo above?
Does your sled have the helix changed out from the oem?
Replace the t-stat...period. They seem to be a 2 season part. Early part of season 3, overheat's and wierd things begin to happen.
I keep seeing the same picture of the 05 broken mount but out of all the 900's I have replaced mounts on, I've yet to see one broken.
Just did mine,, the rubber on the bolt is a high temp silicon, put it around neck of bolt by head of bolt when torquein down head bolts..Thanks for all the input everyone! I cleaned up my shop yesterday morning (I hate working in a mess) and started to pull the engine at about 11:00 am. It took me 2.5 hours before it was sitting on my bench. I took a lot of pictures of various steps and connections. It was a lot easier than I thought to get it out. I ended up not removing the clutch and was very careful not to use the clutch to lift. I put a small chain around the y-pipe with the other end to a middle head bolt and used a small come along to lift it gently out. Then I simply lifted it off the come along by hand and set it on the bench to tear it down. The mounts are all good but I will replace them anyway. I bought the sled with only 900 miles on it and I put 900 miles on it last season. But I am not very hard on it (ride it like a grampa!!). Some questions...
1. When testing the thermostat (I have a feeling it's bad), I see its got two springs, 1 top and 1 bottom. Are they both supposed to open or just the top or just the bottom?
2. I noticed some light green non-hardening stuff on each head bolt...not a lot but I definately saw it. What is it and what is the procedure for putting it on during the assembly? It didn't appear to be on the threads only near the head of each bolt.
3. Is there any other items I should be changing out with the motor out like this?
Everything appears to be in order. I do have the 05 pistons so I'll change those out to the 06's. I have to say that the PBolt olaris service manual sucks big time. I am used to the very high quality Honda factory service manuals for my quads and bikes with great pictures and numerous details. My favorite part was using the Lisle tools fuel line disconnects Mountainhorse recommended. When I first got the sled the fuel float didn't work so I took the tank off the hard way by removing the fuel pump assy from the tank after spending hours dicking around with trying to discconnect the fuel lines. With the tool this time it took less than 15 seconds to disconnect both of them!
Again, thanks for all the help!
