RKTek 858 is LEGIT!

Thanks for the info ultra rider! PV your missing my point. My only issue with what you said is that you didn't mention the one motor you speak of was a prototype. I'm on your page as far as wanting to know if these last as well with the thinner than stock skirts and I thought a comparison to the others might help figure that out.

Have a good weekend riding everyone!

Cylinder skirt

I don't believe the thickness of the cylinder skirt is a big problem, it's the tolerances of the piston inside the the cylinder that makes them crack. polaris thickened them three times to try to fix this issue on a stock engine it's the piston design and tolerances that makes the cylinder skirt break. this new piston design that Kelsey has is so much different I believe they won't see a skirt failure (when you see it with your own eyes you will no what I mean)

I think your right to a certain degree, cylinders and pistons out of spec will slop around and possible put more stress on the skirts. But I there is also a reason why indy dan modifies his skirts aswell as bringing cylinders and pistons into tolerance.

I would agree more support is always good, dan adds support but the thickness is not changed. this new piston from rkt is so much different it's something you have to see to understand

Well let's see them with the shim , you now what they say about talk .

It is too bad all the bickering on here that we do not hear from Kelsey or Dan anymore :face-icon-small-fro

No bickering coming from me I think Indy Dan does great work nothing against him I have dealt with him a lot over the years, the topic was skirt thickness that's all I was referring to on dans cylinder fix, no pics of Kelsey's kit from me it's new and kept down low. But when you see it you will then understand it's a very interesting and different (nothing like I have ever seen) that's all I can say about it other than it works. I no Indy Dan has some kit for low elevation guys from what I hear it's a big secret.

If par 910, carlls 900 and rkt 858 was all setup the same and properly tuned, I would bet on the 858 having more performance. btw I am not a rkt advocate jmo.

I don't really think there is a equal setup, par is using vipec-CPI pipes, carls reflash stock ecu- slp pipe, and rtk seem like they use any box and a stock pipe.

I just want to see a comparison obviously they aren't going to all be apples to apples. But bring the best you have tuned to how you ride. I know I have adjusted clutching and tuning to how I ride and how I want the sled to handle. Might not be the best running 910 out there but it works for me.

KC - there was a guy on these forums a while back that started a thread encouraging a gathering of BB's to see how they run against each other. I believe he was in Idaho. I thought that was a great idea. Perhaps you and I should both go and see how our 910's stack-up. I too would love to see Carl's 900 and RKT's 858 run. If either of those out run our sleds, that would be GREAT...that would mean they are strong runners. I would guess they are both good kits. Both of them put out some quality stuff and so does Brad. Healthy competition is a good thing - it allows all of us to continue to work at improving our sleds.

I was the guy In Idaho who wanted to have the BB shootout, but only one person ever contacted me and said they would come so I just let the idea die.

KC, if you do any comparisons don't forget to come back and let us know what happened. :)

if mccall ever gets any snow lets have a big bore get together! we're getting hammered right now calling for 27-58" by saturday so i'm not wasting time and fuel on any traveling for awhile, but if you guys have lower snow conditions and want to ride i'd be more than happy to take ya out for a saturday/sunday run any weekend

Hardest part about having a "big bore shootout" is that their wont be any apples to apples comparison... some will be clutched to climb, some (myself included) will be clutched for quick track spin tree riding) and some will be clutched for drag racing. none the less it would be fun to get together and put them through the paces. I have a 910 that runs strong in my riding group and will hopefully be meeting up with him Saturday for some over the bars pow so should have a pretty solid comparison as we ride the same terrain and similar clutching

Not to poop on the snow parade, but the forecast for 6800' is about 13" by saturday, but I like your forecast a whole lot better! :)

If you guys are coming to McCall this weekend give me a call, I pm'd my phone number a few weeks ago.

mccall is 3 hours away, that is not home for me, my local honey hole is calling for 27-58" with 24" of it friday night

You mentioned coming to McCall, so I thought you were referring to snowfall here. Yes, I see FO is getting 12" on friday and saturday, doesn't look like we will be getting much of that so you guys will get almost double what we get. We could really use that extra foot! :)

we need it bad, we're about 5 feet shy of this time last year for dropping into the bottom of all the canyons. this storm is definitely going to help :)

I am green with envy, hope you guys get it! I will have to make do with the 12-15" they predict for here. :mmph:

Yes, we need at least 4' to be on the low side of normal. :face-icon-small-sad

Jkinzer,

Who is the 910 that is riding with you? Do you know what he is running for clutching? And who's map they have? I have found this makes a huge difference with the 910's.

I agree there couldn't be any apple to apple comparisons. I am running a 910 with 13.5 compression and twins. My personal map and clutching, like yours I have it set up for the trees. Fast track speed and instant throttle response. With a kmod rear skid and a cmx front end. (Just about as close to riding a dirt bike on snow as I have felt). I just want to see how the other big bores are running. Just guys having fun. I have no intention to get on here after a bash the builder or guys sleds after. Like you said ever sled is set up different. I know Brad is settling sleds up to what each guy wants so each 910 that leaves is setup a little different. As I am sure kelsy and Carls is doing also.
