I don't think you'd HAVE to get ride of the slp, but the porting & head just work that much better with the SW pipe. If it's worth not getting the last little bit out of it, I'm sure you can make it work just fine.

Didn't even think about that. I have that too!
What about just going with the SLP porting? What do they claim and do they offer a higher compression head?

Just talked to Myron at SLP and he said they don't port the M1000 because they haven't been able to find a good setup. He said that there is a spot on the M1 jugs that you can get to thin, that opens up possible issues on coolant leaking into the exhaust port if it gets to hot by cracking. Now I'm just more confused! Why's it have to be like this?

I ride at low elevation (below 1000-4000feet) on pump gas and it works very good!!!

I have buddies that ride Slp. And you will be good with the SLP and porting at that altitude.
The reason for SW works best, is only at higer altitude where it has higer backpressure. The SW givs better power from 2000ft and upwards but its not that big diffrence before you get very high like 10000ft.
At this altitude 0-4500ft twin pipes realy makes the sled perform well.
Keep the SLP and get a proper porting like the one from RKT. You will be satisfyed.
With the Slp I think you will be better off using the stock head. I think the RKT head is "too" efficient and then you will loose pipe backpressure and hp...I know people here have good luck with Slp and porting.

I too am in the dilemma of having the full SLP setup already and wanting just a tadd more power out of it. I have the RKT billet head already as well. How does this porting setup affect the bottom end? Also how radical are the changes required to my current boondocker map? What kind of clutching changes has everyone made? Really wanting a turbo but was wanting to run pump gas too, but after reading this, this might be the way to go and much cheaper as well. Any help would be appreciated.

Finished this build over the summer. I was really on the fence, but I am really happy I did it. I added a KMOD suspension and geared down to M-8 gears. This sled is super responsive and quick now. At 255lbs with gear, I needed all the advantage I could get and didn't want to go with boost. You wont regret it. As for tuning, mine is an 09 so I started with Kelseys numbers and had to make a few fuel adjustments.
What BD numbers did you end up with. I did the same package on a 2010, but have yet to ride and fine tune.

Went for the first ride today, BD numbers need a little work. Here is where I started as recommended by Kelsey:

Thanks for the #'s! Are you running any other engine add on's? What elevation? Clutching?
My set up is 08 1000 speedwerx pipe ,mbrp can ,attitude box , 14.5/ 1 rkt head i run 3 gallons 110 at 4/6000 feet straight 36 helix with 83 gram wts in the primary it rip at 7700 rpm there is absalutely no comparison to any thing stock not even close by any measure. By the way i tune off the seat of my pants nos af, or egts but i'm a tuner and know what it should feel like.,
