rkt 827 or sled head racing 840 kit?

so im seriously considering doing either the 827 kit from rkt or the 840 kit from sled head racing. I have a 2006 summit 800 and just want to know which one would be better.

me too!

I am also in the process of rebuilding my '06 Summit X and have been contemplating this same dilema. Both have their pro's and con's. I have talked to both Kelsey and John...and both are good salesmen. The 827 turns higher RPM to get higher HP...the 840 turns lower RPM with a little less HP but more torque (easier clutching IMO). Both Kelsey & John recommended I go with a rebuilt BRP crankshaft rather than sending mine off to get rebuilt. It seems like they are both dead set in their ways and opinions, and I respect both of them because of their time and experience...but I don't understand why sending my crank off to be rebuilt with BRP bearings will be any worse than buying a reman BRP crank. Also...I do not believe that my HPS can is the sole reason for burning down my RK Tek drop in pistons to begin with...especially when the sled has run perfect with that can since the day it left the dealership. I would also appreciate anyone's input on either one of these kits. I think they are both outstanding products of the highest quality...but want to know which one will suit my 6k-11k mountain riding the best!

Because....paying for all 6 bearings and labor = the reman price and you get 2 NEW connecting rods/bearings "FREE"...just double check there work and have it trued before install...BJ

It has been my experience that the BRP reman cranks are usually new cranks and not evena reman crank.. not always, but most of the time.. So, you MAY get a new crank.. So, that is one reason for suggesting the reman crank from BRP..

One little correction.. The 827 is happy anywhere from 7800-8600 rpms.. The HP rises with rpm.. I designed the engine for 8500 peak rpms.. This is where peak power is made.. But it does not need to be ran there if you do not want to.. You can view the TOQUE curves and see that the TORQUE curve is VERY flat..so, you can spin the engine wherever you please..
I build over-rev into ALL my big bores and porting packages..

Nothing against the 840, it is a fine engine kit.. but it does not make more torque than the 827.. Just clearing that up..

I've been running the 827 kit for about a month now. I'm very happy with the power it makes. But buy a team clutch so you get the power to the track. You can have all the power in the world but it's useless of it's not getting to the ground.

i have an 827 with a dj kit....hold on...well worth the coin. engine is so much smoother. and get the remap

I have the 840 and love it. Don't have to worry about any stock sled.
The motor is easy to clutch and BJ is excellent to deal with, he goes above and beyond to help his customers.
Oh and the 840 works with other pipes and cans.
Get the 840 with an Aaen pipe and can. With a Camo Extreme you won't be able to justify a new sled for a LONG time.
