rk tek or indy dan?

hi I have a 2011 Polaris pro, and I was wondering what kit would be better. I have 1700 miles, and just want to know what the best option is? Thanks

Yep. Lots of kits out there. Lots of different reviews and thoughts. Best to make your own decision on this one. I went with RKtek drop in pistons beginning of last year then went with Indy Specialties LRTM this summer.

Buy the kit from the guys who bash the least. Those guys are obviously too busy building motors instead of coming on these forums and blowing smoke up everyone's a$$.

Well said, My money went to Indy Dan for his long rod upgrade (X2). He builds the complete engine and provides a warranty that is far better than Polaris's.

The other one you get nothing but pistons and all the quality control is left on you. Some rave about them (mainly high altitude Idaho Locals) and some curse their decision ( most of them sea level riders).

Do You Feel Lucky!

Do you have the tools to measure the cylinder, piston to cylinder clearance, ring end gap? How good are you mechanically? etc? From previous stories on others experiences; if any issues were to arise he will likely blame you and everyone else that touched the sled and deny any responsibility on his part. Not the kind of guy I'd put my trust in or my money.

Can't go wrong with Indy Dan. Another option maybe instead of putting that kind of money into a 2011, maybe put it into a 2013 hold over with a full warranty. They are out there.

I was in the same boat...I have a 2011 RMK Assault with about 1,000 miles on it. Love the sled, I know there have been some improvments in newer model years but I decided to invest in Dan's LR motor since the rest of my sled is fine. I also went with his complete clutch set up and gearing. I like buying complete packages from the same person since they have experience in what works with their motor setups. Needless to say I'm Looking forward to this winter.

I've ran rktech's drop in kits on 4 sleds all pro 800s. it has worked as advertised. nice horse power gain and much less vibration no issues at all. I also did a pms kit on a friends dragon and it also worked great just not as much power gained.bot these kit were very affordable less than 800 bucks, I believe indydans kit is about 2500.00 to 3500.00 I think there all good products it's just about how much you can spend.

would you be worried about my cylinder skirt breaking with 1700 miles, if i did rk tek's system? Could I mix kits and have dan build my cylinder up, and have Kelseys top and and pistons, I kind of like what he does with his pistons and his combustion chamber.

Just an FYI, when i sent my blown engine to Indy Dan for his LR rebuild i asked about getting Kelseys pistons and he wouldn't do it. You may be able to do it yourself but then you may not get warranty etc.

Also, i bought my '11 pro with 1600 miles on it. The motor was blown twice from the previous owner, first was stock and second was carl's cycle rebuild (broken skirts). I hope this LR lasts much longer than those motors did.

If you are worried about your cylinders send them out and have them redone and you will know that the bore is right and they check for cracks . Basically you have new cylinders .
I only know of one kit thats been around for some time with great results and you never hear any negtive feed back . It has made the Dragon the sled it should have been from the factory and many are copying the idea .
This whole who's kit is better sceniro rates right up with who's wrap should I go with .

It comes down to how much $ you have.

There really aren't many/any bashing the rk tek kit, nor are there any bashing the other kits....

I personally went with the rk drop in kit this summer so I can't tell you how mine runs yet. However when I started it, I was amazed by how little it vibrated compared to stock, that has to say a little something something.

just have your clyinders checked for cracks at a relable machine shop .if they are cracking it should show through there testing. they can also tell you if you have to much taper.

I went with the RK-TEK kit.. and the gains were noticeable and the R's seem to hold better... but clutching this 163 was a pita! .. the 155 was so much easier to dial in..
