RK TEK 662cc Big Bore questions

So I have a nonHO 600 zx chassis renegade, I know this isn't the correct area but there is no action over there and I have been told this is the same motor as a 500ss rev so questions should be relevant.

The compression is low in both cylinders so it's time to freshen it up, I have been looking at RKT's 662 kit for this motor because I want more power out of the ol girl. I would like to know if anyone has experience with this kit, and if they have any thoughts (positive or negative) about going this route. And are there any things that I will need to upgrade to support this kit that aren't included in it?

I have considered replacing with a 700 motor but at the end of the day it will cost relatively close to the same, to swap in a used 700 motor and I'm left with a big unknown as far as reliability is concerned. And if what I've read is correct the 662 kit should bring power in my 600 motor up between a 700 and a nonHO 800 motor.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

I had a 500ss that ran like the wind. RKT hi comp head, porting, reeds, SPI single with can...that machine was the fastest reving machine ive ever owned. it would split drags no matter the distance with a non-ho 800 renegade. it was a very fun machine. I had a friend who had a 662. he had setup issues..did a number of top ends in a few thousand miles. mine ran well for a few thousand. seemed like skirts were a problem with the piston but I never saw it apart...2nd hand info..if it were me..id keep stock bore or overbore slightly and do the porting and a head.

Thank you for the reply. Do you know any company that makes a twin ring piston for this motor? Typically I wouldn't bore something so big as is adds much more stress on all of the rotating assemblies. But I agree with the theory behind adding the second ring to the piston, so that was a big sway point in my decision.

And further more, do you think that it was your buddies installation technique or the product that was the issue in his motor?

Again, thank you.

I Know Weisco make's oversized pistons up to about 620cc I believe. I'm not sure if MCB does or not, it maybe worth a call.

As for install, tough to say. Friend is a reasonably knowledgable tuner and asked a lot of questions during install. I'd say he was fairly well educated on it and knew more than the average bear.

I really believe that the porting is the kicker with this motor. The cylinders I received back were hogged out a lot from stock. Motor liked to spin in the 8300-8400 RPM after porting.

Ok, thank you for your insight. Not necessarily what I wanted to hear, but all info I can get is good info to base my decision off of. I will be looking into seeing if either of them make a dual ring version. Surprisingly the cylinder walls don't look bad at all, can still see some good cross hatching. So if I can get away without the bb kit and just doing everything else that'll be mint. I'm pretty sure that the kit went up 200 beans between last week and this week so it's kinda pushing weather it's worth doing or not now.
