Riding Pics 2009-02-22

She was running about 80% the day I rode with you, but I can't seem to get it any better. Runs like poop on the main. The Super Q is coming off and the HPS going back on and some more jetting. I'm up for a trip in a week or two. I just placed my order for balls last Thursday, so hopefully there get here soon. I better start practicing though :D

I heard you had some motor issues Ike? James is talking about doing a 3 day trip somewhere different maybe head south. Hopefully follow a storm. This bowl we were in yesterday was nothing like it was last week when there was couple feet of fresh over the hood pow in it. Chitty snow sucks. Maybe head out west and meet up with Kim. How's the snow in the land of many wives?

This is what this bowl looked like last weekend.

LOL! The snow was off the hook Wed-Fri. Baked a little by Saturday, but still deep in some of my secret places on the NE slopes. More snow coming over the next 3 days. Raining in the valleys, so probably a little heavy, but..... Come on over anytime! As for all the wives....if you have, or have ever had one, you should understand....they are always acting up! Can you imagine having a whole heard of em? ;)

Here's some pics from Wed. http://www.snowest.com/forum/showthread.php?t=135394

Dammit James! Always screwin it up for everyone else!
Even though the snow wasn't what you wanted it still looked pretty fun to me. Glad james came out okay. It would suck to be underneath one of those volkswagen sized snow boulders.

The cornice went all the way to the bottom of the bulge to the left up there and over hung quite a bit. I think you can see the divot his head made below that bulge. It was big face

Some sweet action shots! I'm in the same boat with my camera - it's more advanced than my photography skills! Thank goodness for PS.

just a suggestion from another amatuer photog who learned from a pro. at the light you were shooting at, you should probably have an f stop of 10-11. thats a pretty standard sunny day setting if you ask me. shooting shutter priority is nice for freezing action shots, but sometimes getting correct exposure is tricky. i generally shoot apeture priority or full manual. depending on the model of camera, etc, playing around with the exposure can help too. i have a canon rebel and it seems to like being over exposed a 1/2 to 1/4 stop. one tghing i like to do is take a scenery shot at a few differant f stops and exposures, then go look at later in photomechanic or image browser, etc and see what differant settings did for a given shot..its a good quick way to lear. and fwiw, i think the shots looks great and clear. nothing like a DSLR if you ask me

I have the same problems with my camera sometimes...I have a polarizer on mine also. A lot of it is your angle, which you seem to be getting right..unless you want them to be silhouettes. Try shooting without the polarizer, or try using a lense hood might help too. As far as photoshop stuff, and fixing them up that way..have you used the curves at all? I usually lighten them up that way. :) Otherwise they look really good, I wish I had that type of scenery to shoot..:( Someday! :D Heres some from the other day, that I shot...still will always be learning!

Thx not too bad but I had to tweak them pretty good in PS. I've got some ideas for next time on how to improve them so we'll see. The camera is way better than the operator right now

Good work in post processing. You got some great angles on those shots.

Don't feel alone, I've had mine for months now and still getting feel for it in different conditions.

Good shots.

great pics but ditch the polarizer! they are great for landscapes but not for action shots... I shoot in Aperture mode, and use a 70-200 2.8 lens, I set my Aperture at F4 to F8 depending on what I see through the lens, I try and adjust it to keep my shutter speed over 1/1000, set your white balance to cloudy. on my other cameras that I had I usually adjusted the exposure to a +.03 to +.07, on my new one, the exposure is great set at normal. I guess thats what you get for a $4500 camera :D

most lens are sharpest stopped down a couple stops from wide open.

If you have to, set your ISO on manual and turn it up a little to maybe 400 or 600 that will help you use a bigger aperture (lower number) and it will bring your shutter speed up.

Great pics as always...stunning. Just makes you stare almost in disbelief.
For 4500 bucks, you still have to adjust things. Kinda like a 10000.00 buck turbo that needs tweeking:D.
How big is this camera you speak of and how do you pack it sledding?

I thought the pics looked great duke but this is coming from a guy with a 150 dollar POS camera.:D Glad nobody got hurt or killed in the avy!

Yup, that is what I thought about the polarizer. I had never used one on my cheapy camera and always had great luck. Regarding aperture, since I'm shooting a lot of deep field of vision pics I figured I needed to be at least at F8 or F11? I was shooting at ISO200 at 1/800. The camera is a Canon 50D and EF24-105 f/4L IS USM lens. I am thinking next time I will try ISO 400 or 640 and get the shutter speed up to 1/1000 without the polarizer.

Looks like someone is skipping classes...thats the throttle on the right you might want to grab some? Maybe you could at least give him a copy of the lecture notes!

Glad nobody got hurt on that slide. Just cause we don't climb up and down the hills doesn't mean we don't have to worry about avys. Thats why I never like looking over the edge :eek: just point and shoot. :beer;
