He was hit on his streekbike earlier today.
Rick was a special person who broke the mold in everyway. Quiet guy yet a hard going racer...without an ego. He was one of a kind.
When i heard the news i first thought of his shop that is littered with trophies and posters and every piece of snowmobile history you could imagine over the last 20 years. Most of it he made. 7X posters by Polaris here, over there...hillclimb champion there...on and on. The floor is torn with all years of skags that have torn up the floor from pulling sleds in and out. All the technical wizardary that Rick did himself to put him and his Polaris over the top for as long as i have been around were done in large part in that "small" space. Allot of the stuff we now ride are and appreciate were thought of and tested by Rick.
The shop is small but effecient . No big, over done place. Just simple. Just like Rick Ward.
In the corner is his car project....even though he quit snowmobile racing he was still getting the itch to race...He was the greatest snowmobile hillclimber/racer in history. And by far the best guy you could have on your team.
Rick Ward will always be remembered as a special person. The quiet and easy go'n, humble guy, i am sure will be missed by all.
He will rest in peace. He earned it.
