Revy - STD capital of BC???

Actually a good set of skis can run 1200$, boots, 500 bone, and usually they last 3 to 4 years tops, then something better comes along. then the lift passes, 75 bucks a day, the other gear... Trust me... skiers spend money,

Look at heli skiing, it is BIG business. Those are the ones you should be worried about. They spend 10,000 a week on powder skiing.... and actually threaten your sledding areas....

It is funny how the stereotype of them only eating granola and cornflakes comes in... Those are transients mostly... sounds like someone has to re-learn grade 1 math.

HAHA LUKE,, " Sausage to Taco " ratio... That is a gooder.:D[/QUOTE

hey boots etc don;t count...and we can do 16 grand sleds if you do 1200 dollar ski"s...as far as relearning grade one math...ok l give you the honours on that one...but hey grade one wasn;t the three best years of my life like it was yours

Let's stop the fighting ladies and gentlemen, seeing as how we are all out there for the same reasons, fresh powder and blue skies.
I know one things for certain if someone is in trouble out in the mountains, I will do my best to try and help no matter if they are a skier, hiker, biker, etc...

James, you have a good point. It's all about the snow.

U funny newb.
Did you buy your sled in Revy? What is your original point?

Your typing looka a little "Ghetto" to say the least. Try the apostrophe instead of semi-colon, or parenthesis.

your right...one day it will take all the user groups to stick together to maintain access..we all are out there for the same reason..enjoyment..usually the groups with power and no intention to enjoy what we do...they are the ones that want to stop all of us

Why don't ya boys just line up a bunch of skiers and a bunch of sledders and see who can piss the farthest.

Settled.

p.s. My money is on the sledders.

Cheers to more beers.

Here is the way I see it in Revy this year. The hotel I stay at has gone up in price 100% in the last 2 years. This hotel offers continental breakfast, and the skiers use it as a breakfast lounge and hang out there for an hour and eat until might throw up, it is all I can do just to get a cup of coffee. Then we go to our favorite place to eat and all the staff are mad because the skiers come in an order the cheapest meal they can that includes salad bar...then proceed to eat off of the salad bar all night and bag up there meal to go. All the while they sit there and order water with a fricken lemon in it. While this BS is going on, they are turning away sledders who want to get hammered and leave a 10-20% tip. This particular place is now telling skiers they are full, so they can save the tables for sledders. This will be the only way they are going to keep good help.

You guys are freakin funny!! I skied my whole life up until I started sledding 5 years ago. Since then its been more and more sledding less skiing, but I dont hate skiers now. When your talking about ski/sled town economies, your trucks, decks, trailers, ski gear, and the rest of your buy in dont mean squat. Hotels, food/booze, and gas are where the money is, that is besides the millions of dollars per year spent at the actual ski resorts that employ large numbers of people who live in and spend there money in the local towns. And the skier stereotypes while funny and in some cases true are not the norm. Go into a ski lodge at lunch time and check out the line up to buy an 18buck burger fries and a Gatoraid, sure some brown bag but thats just being smart.

Sledders are the small market fringe group so get used to it!!! Over the next few years Revy will become a ski town, and nolonger be a sled town cause we just dont have the numbers....And as long as nobody starts trying to shut us down I'm fine with that.

Ski vs Sled

FYI GoldenRider,

I just came from Banff Sunshine the two days prior, paid my $78 for a lift pass, I thoroughly enjoyed myself, this weekend I will be back in Golden doing a little back country skiing with family. My point was not to attack the ski industry but more to point out the negative attitiudes potrayed by many of the "Granola" chewers towards sledders and the ever escalading prices associated when the ski hills develop. And yes there was near 45 minute waits at lifts this weekend at time at Kicking Horse.

If that does not work behind the monkey bars after school...

All the talk of hotel room prices and stuff increasing is proof of the numbers the ski industry brings to towns like Revy and Golden. Anyone watched the real estate prices in Revy over the last 12 months? You think that's cause a few thousand more guys from east of the rockies bought sleds this year? Sure it has helped in the last decade keep the tourism dollars in these towns strong over the winter months, but come on, you can't deny what's driving the industry.

I like the comments about access and sustainability and stuff.....you guys are thinking into the future of our sports and that's a good thing. When faced with closures or threats of, the numbers of people on petitions and at meetings will keep places open, that will take all user groups cooperating. Keep the mud slinging to a minimum towards 'granola crunching' skiers if you expect them to sign their name on your petition 5 years from now. Remember, a good handful of skiers would love if places were non-motorized and they could hike in to ski tour on their own. Don't give them a reason to rally against you.

Too bad about the experiences with cheap skiers in the hospitality industry so far this year......it's funny, I know a place in Golden that won't take bookings from sledders because they were tired of cleaning up after them and repairing damage to their property. Goes both ways, sometimes more.

That's cool man, go easy 'back country' skiing off of Kicking Horse this weekend, lots of size 2+ avy activity in the last little while, natural, skier triggered and remote triggered. I know all about those lift lines....hopefully the Horse gets their act together and builds another lift soon.

Like Marcuso said, who gives a flying fug?

Hahaha, obviously Marcuso does, or he wouldnt keep chiming in and posting....

Hows that for clouded. Bahahahaha

Like it or not, at this point theres room for both Sled heads and Skier's. There's stereo types for both. i just hope the local resturants, hotels, gas stations ETC remember who's been paying there bills the past 15 years before this recent boom of skier's. I know some do remember which is great, some have quickly forgotten.

The Heli and Cat sking is a funny topic, they've been there a long fuggin time. Clyde's Powder Cat opperations awesome, i've been snowboarding on that tour 7 times over the years, and its not for the "typical granola's" being mentioned on here, it's no cheap date. But worth every penny. The main problem i have with the Heli fugger's is they just keep trying to take all the land, have sleds banned, area's closed down and the list goes on. Do you see any sledding groups trying to kick Heli skiers out ?? No, you dont because WE sledders understand give and take. Them fuggin Heli biotches just understand the "Take" part. Have a look at most of the snowboard community, they love sleds, sledding and alot of them are using sleds to access the back country. I dont see any snowboards groups trying to take over from the sled community. As mentioned, there's room for everyone, and the only reason the Heli skiers money talks more than the sledders is because its a fuggin cash grab by the Gov't...... those whom wish to argue, try an dispute that FACT !!

Well put man, great post.

personally, i like how this thread went from bashing skiing/sledding to bashing alberta. great entertainment.

and if that doesn't settle it, out back by the bike rack.................................
great line, i like it!!!!!

Why does it matter who does what during the day? More people in town=better economy=possibly more resturants, hotels, bars opening. Sounds like a good thing. But lets get to the root of the problem. Almost every snowmobiler believes that every skier has something to do with land closures. Maybe they do, maybe they dont, but the real problem is snowmobilers' lack of action.

So everything gets expensive, that is a sign of a growing economy.

No.. thats the start of a depession!

Lets face it here. the main reason everyone is pissed off is because it is going/went from an awesome sledders only town, to another skitown. Im glad I got to ride there before it started changing.

I have been sledding around alot of the big resorts and it is definitly different. you roll into town with your rig and people look down on you like your some type of terrorist or something, and in most cases skiiers are some want to be rich SOB's. why do I know this. well my wife is the CFO of a skiresort and most of the skiiers are what I like to call neighborhood nerds. people who want everyone to think they have alot of money, so they buy the big house they can barely afford in the big neighborhood and plan a few trips to the ski hill to fit the image and try to look super duper to all their wantabee buddies. after that they are basically broke!

hell, most of the people that own the homes on the ski mtn's. dont even ski. they enjoy having a home in a place that will 1. make a good rental income from the wannabes or 2. be enjoyable for thier broke *** families.

Me on the other hand, im broke cause I spend all my money on sledding and live in a trailer, but thats not the point here. lol j/k..:)

I personally feel for you guys in revy if it does get worse. It would be nice if we could all get along, and I feel TOBE is kind of helping things whether that is their intention or not, with the merge in their clothing and mag. seems like they are onto something. maybe someday, there wont be any worries..

yep that's all i see with this typical situation.

wow..... why even have a post where sleders bash skiers and skiers bash sledders.... Sledders seem to have no problems bashing each other!!

Who cares who spelled what how and who spends more money and what colour or how many colours your shirt has.... go ride your sled or ski down a hill or rip through the trees on your snowboard.... If you are worried about what others think when you show up with what ever you prefer to ride.... then you are only there to impress others.

I don't ride with many ppl on here....That I know of. I'm scared to ask most of the time because then you can put a face to and azzhole!! I do ride with people who I get talking with in lounges while trying to drink myself to death. Most of them are pretty cool people. Some of them are skiers or boarders. In the end... most have the same goal.
