Revy avalanche

snowhippy

i was there and o-zone was not . when we got to turbo there was about 100 or so people there , and some riders were taking runs at the hill and more were coming we were not there 10 to 15 minutes and it came down, people had no where to go ,we were hit head on with the snow . when all came to a stop it was very quiet ,and people started moving , and pulling people from the snow ,
those people are heroes. my heart go out to them:heart: for saving me and others. we are not stupid people just happen Tobe in the wrong place at the wrong time

for o-zone i did not see him there so please quit bashing him.

First off I want to say sorry to all those involved in the avalanche in Revy or any avalanche anywhere, and also I am just a lurker on the forums here but I just wanted to say a couple things.

Thanks to the lady that wrote the letter but I am not sure thats what I would want the public hearing from the snowmobile community. If I had my mom read that who cares nothing about snowmobiling I am not sure that would make her like snowmobilers any better. I felt reading that letter that snowmobilers should be allowed just because we have money to buy all this stuff to be in our great sport. Not trying to bash her just saying that I am not sure thats the direction I would want this to go.

I think the public wants to hear that the snowmobilers were wrong, that we screwed up that day and we did, there was an avalanche that was human caused. Plain and simple thats what happend. To gain any ground with the public I believe that we as snowmobilers need to admit that we were wrong instead of saying that we had beceans and probes and all that stuff.

Also these forums are the worst things for snowmobilers that were ever invented. If I was opposed to snowmobiles all I had todo was log onto snowest or BCR and see all the garbage that is being said. For crying out loud, as a group we cant even decide which forum to go to because one costs a whole 10 dollars a year (although we spend all this other money) or go to one that is free and can say what ever we want. There are still people whining about BO if he is a legal resident or not, who cares, he is the president. All this negative activity does not farwell for the snowmobile community.

I would suggest admiting that we as snowmobilers screwed up that day and created an avalanche, no matter if that slide was part of the BIS or not, there was an avalanche, it wasnt caused by OZONE, it wasnt caused from the guy sitting at the bottem telling his turboed 400 HP sled could go this way or that up the hill, it was an accident that nobody wanted to happen but did. In the publics eye I believe that they want us to admit that we were wrong. The next step is getting yamaha or any sled company involved and making everybody that goes to these "unsanctioned" events take an avalanche course before they are allowed out of the parking lot. Tell the public how we are going to fix the problem.

I do not want to lose this sport any less than anybody else but we have to give a little because of a screwed up weekend and everybody who doesnt want to give a little, well its a whole lot better than losing everything.

Want to hear a good one .This lady came up to me and said "do you guys really climb those big hills when you go to the mountains when the avalanche is high".I said NO we take precautions. She just laughed." Like the radio and the news say you guys are a bunch fo crazy idiots" ,then she comments how dumb it is to race up the moutains looking for trouble ,She then pipes up as she's walking away and says" well at least your not dumb enough to get dropped off at the top of a hill to ski into the avalanche." Boy was i mad. Old lady with an attitude.:boom:

Interesting , man that idiot really is a prize isnt he. I read what veedy said about him pushing ppl to head to turbo even after they told him it wasnt safe.
QUOTE]

i don;t think your doing veedy a favour by bringing that conversation up before the avy...it kinda puts him on the same footing as the person he was talking to for knowledge of the possible outcome..

I dont get what you mean in your second line. That post we are referring to is there for anyone to read. It goes a ways to show the mind set of the person in question.

Super easy way to donate to the CAC

I know it was hard to find $10/yr to belong to the forums :face-icon-small-win, but hey, maybe somebody still has a few bucks that they can spare.

The CAC needs funds to produce and maintain snowmobile specific resources.
They are super strapped for cash this season.

I put this out there over the weekend and the feedback from sledders was...make it easier to donate.

So, I made some quick changes.

Pull out the plastic and donate online. Super quick and easy. Follow this link and use Visa/M.C./Amex

We need to show that we are a proactive community. We talk a lot on these forums. Pass around this link and see if we can put our money where our mouths are! Come on everyone, pony up with some cash, lets support the people that provide us the info to play safe........

Look I don't really care what anyone thinks of Ozone but I have seen people in shock that resembled zombies, it happens, the other poster said he was as white as a ghost...

It's clear to me Ozone is being targeted as a Scape Goat, really, what was soo terrible that he did ? I'm sure he just wanted everyone to have a good time...

Or you think he orchestrated this disaster for his own evil, personal gains? bah haha...

Give the guy a break, do onto others...

Dave (Ozone) declared the event over at the race bowl ( superbowl ). It was shortly after a crash during the uphill drags, which I captured on video. He was visibly upset and concerned for the person injured.
After race bowl events, Everyone went about the mountain their separate ways, in their own groups to enjoy the rest of the day. Lots of sledders hit the sugar bowl, some went to the airport, some went to the lakes, and some went to the turbo hill.
We went to the airport and then to the bull pen. Climbed some gnarlyness, then called it a day. We never heard the news of the avy until we hit the parking lot.
Ozone doesn't have a malicious bone in his body. He definitely wanted people to have a good time, and was never intending them to get hurt or worse. He was negligent in the fact that this was never called off, but that is where the " people have full control of their own decisions " comes into play. You also have to remember that no-one had guns to their heads on the trail head forcing them to go.
I have reviewed video shot from that day, and I along with many others recorded some of the most reckless, self-endangering sled riding I have ever witnessed. two sleds stuck on a bowl face, and another cutting above them in obvious slide conditions on 2 feet of freshly dumped powder snow.
real smart. That kind of activity does not make me proud to be a sledder.

Time we stopped pointing fingers at others and start pointing it towards yourself. We all need to be vigilant about our own and our groups safety.

Peace all.

Excellent post there Veedy,Due to circumstances and a group of lawyers I am sure Ozone would love to speak his mind on the events of that terrible day.
I must also add that the true heros on Turbo on that day were the ones burried, were saved and joined in to help fellow sledders and those that were missed and were able to help find everyone,in terrible conditions at the end of the day through tons of debris.
You can say mistakes may have been made but for all these victims to be able to regain their composure and recover everyone before SAR showed up is commendable.
If anyone knows who the people that took control through all the shock and took control and guided everyone on starting a search, please post their names as I think they deserve the recognition for saving as many lives as they did.Its truely a miricle that this did not go down in history as the biggest avalanche tragity ever.

:smokin:Dave

I think it is about time everyone lays off the "ozone guy" and yes I was guilty earlier too. but since some of the facts of the day came out and I had some time to think about what I had wrote I went back and deleted my posts placing blame on anyone. the events for the day were done, and no one put a gun to anyones head that morning in the parking lot. we are all adults and know the risks of the back country. The only reason there was a big iron shoot out in the first place was so everyone could get together and have fun.

Ozone Dave

Yes me too a little...

I have riden with Dave a few times in the past, good guy who enjoys life!

Numerous people on this site have blasted him on a variety of different angles from poor organization to skeptical judgement.

It is very hard to commit to a weekend several months in advance, and with the popularity of the event just cancel it... I would assume just as many people would have run him down again for that as well.
Everyone can arm chair and say that's what should have been done, but numerous people would still have been there on Saturday anyway. I think many did heed the CAC advice and stayed away, I know I did. It could have been far worse had the avy happen on Sunday during the scheduled "non-sanctionned" event. Thanks to those who were the rescue crew Saturday!

Dave may not be what everyone expects but at least he puts in the effort to get something done. I am sure he was the drive why Oakley and others agreed to offer prizes for this years event.

Stay strong Dave, don't let the half truths and harassment of the media bring you down.

The blame game has become the big thing......

I'm 60 years old and I've seen a lot of good things go down, due to that.
Law suits, and liabilities ruin fun events. Fishing derbies, weekend local snowmobile races, even picnics. In these times of lawsuits for every little thing, why would anyone try to organize any event where they might loose everything they own?
I myself have organized some fishing derbies, antique snowmobile races and a few other things. My wife asks, why should we assume the risk?
I can't respond to that, except that I wish we could live in a world where there's a little something going on each week to bring people together for the shear fun of it.
Why can't we decide for ourselves weather the coffee is too hot, or the road is slippery, should I stick my hands in a running lawnmower, or sit at the bottom of a slide area? It should be our choice, and before you say ' they envolve others' thoses other are our friends. We help each other.

I find this post funny since we've all owned these video's for years. Or like most of us have lived this lifestyle for years

This type of recklessness is not just limited to the mountains around revy. This type of dis-respect for the mountains is in every mountain community from coast to coast country to country

People want to have an excuse for there actions but it's time for folks to wake up. This will continue to happen again and again and folks will conitnue to fabricate an excuse for there actions.

We also care about what sledhead 890 has to say "Thank you"
"Support" "Support". My heart and mind is with the deceased and the injured and their families and also the people on the scene, (heroes), search and rescue and everybody else.
