Review and Installation: PsychoSled "Super Secret Squirrel" Nytro Clutch

Getting ready for another day of riding this morning and thought I would do that required cleaning of the clutches after the new belt went on.

Belt looks great and the sheeves were very clear.
But the belt protector was filthy.
Quite a lot of belt dust being thrown on it from the secondary.

After some conversation with him I went ahead and ordered one of these new kits for my Supercharged Nytro in hopes that I could get the stock clutch dialed in a bit better for the additional power coming from the Supercharger.

You aren't saying that you've kept your clutching stock after your SC install right? What did you change once the SC was installed? How different is this new clutch kit from what you had? Spring rates specifically.

As for cleaning the clutches, a scotchbrite pad is all that's needed on the sheaves. As MP suggested, cleaning new belts helps tremendously. By the looks of your buttons in your secondary, I would look to replace them after a few more miles.

Considering the rollers that came out of your sled, I'm surprised you didn't notice a smoother shift from that change alone.

Reeb. I believe he just had the OEM hammer weights loaded, and OEM springs as he was only running 6 lbs initially.

Correct.

So.
Found some SNOW today.
On a long straight pull in 6 inches of reasonably soft snow I was turning 8250-8,500 rpm.
 
Let's drop you to the "medium" screw, and leave it on the toe. (Flush with OUTER tip of weight)

Hmmm
As we LIGHTEN up the weights I am going to be banging off the rev limiter even more than I am now under normal riding condition.

Lets hope we see some real snow soon.:face-icon-small-hap
 
It's a sled. Tune it according to 90% of your riding conditions. If that is hard pack trails - I feel bad for ya.

I'll bet you were chewing through into some old snow which will drop your rpm. I'll bet if you were in dry fresh snow you'd be right close. I think I would leave it alone, especially if you're already hitting the rev quite often.

Well, right now our snow pretty much SUCKS in this corner of Idaho.
So it's either been trail or trees. Any open areas are HEAVILY pounded down now.
Yesterday I found a shady field in a very large farm.
Snow was surprisingly good for being out in the open.
Not crunchy or crusty at all, and utterly untracked.

Finally found that deep powder to get some HARD RPM numbers.
Wide Open Throttle, flat surface, 12-18 inches of powder.
7,500 rpm.

Now I am ready to change clutch weights.

-1 gram = +/- 200 rpm... I'd say a 5 gram reduction would be a solid start. 8900 is the Nytro "sweet spot", but don't try to hit that target all at once.

That is with your kit with the weights we installed on day one.
I did not want to make any changes until I could give you some rock solid numbers to chew on.

What is the weight difference from one screw to the next?

We're in Togwotee at the moment, so I can't tell you. I'll have to look it up anyway.

We use a gram scale when we install kits. This helps ensure all 3 weights are exactly equal, and allows for grinding adjustments if needed.

You can pick up a decent scale from Harbor Freight for under $20
