Revers Click/Grind?

Revers Click/Grind and coolant ?

On my 05 RMK 900 when I go into reverse I always try and ease into the throttle, and it works fine, but if I accidentally get into to hard it sometimes makes a clicking/ grinding noise? After that it goes fine backwards. Any thoughts? Is this normal? Something to do with the helix? It does have a 66/44 helix if that makes any differance? Any help is apreciated as always... and Merry Christmas.

do you have any derline washers in your secondary..

do you have a new spring as well..

if you open it up to check it out..put a derlin washer on BOTH sides of the spring..this will prevent the spring from binding or catching.....sounds to me like that is whats happening there...

or it could be your secondary floating on the shaft...might check your spacing on the floating as well..

Thanks for the help... I have another question maybe you can help with, my sled seems to use a very small amount of coolant, maybe a tablespoon per ride? Anyways I cant seem to find a leak anywheres, would coolant in the cylinder have any affect on spark plug color?

I don't know about color on plugs but if coolant is getting into the cylinders then it will strip the oil off the cylinder wall and you will have problems in the new future. I would take it easy on the riding till someone post up some more useful info on how to check/correct this.

lots on here recently about coolant levels and problems, i think there was one memeber that used a pressure system to bleed their sled...cant remember who.

depends on whats actually going on with your coolant system..

you could try and pressure test it..

but it could also be...have you drained/filled your coolant lately..like yank the motor for example..

it could seem low because your system is slowly bleeding off the air in the system and it will gradually get lower until all the air is gone..thats whats happening with mine right now..

get a small light and look in your cylinders and see if you have any small bubbles or traces of coolant

Make sure it is using not loosing it. cap is exact same size as Subaru small Toyota so pressure tester with that adapter works. Test cap first.

I did just have a coolant flush done at the dealer? Maybe that is it. I think I will take it in get them to do a pressure test, and leak down test just to be safe, checked cylinders with light, no sign of coolant.

Well good news (i guess).... I found my coolant leak, the 2 hoses that go into the water pump, the one closer to the engine is leaking at the clamp. Now how the hell do I get back there, and please dont say pull the motor. I am relieved that it isnt leaking into the cylinder, and at least I can ride now and just keep topping it up, but in the end I would like to fix it... anyone have any advice?

its pretty cut and dry..

pull your center console, seat, fuel tank and drain your coolant..you can get in there from there and get the hose out and replace it...just be careful moving wires out of your way cause you can break them in the insulation...while your in there, look for chaffing or any issues with wire routing and fix it now..

good luck.

I inspected everything more closely, really hard to see, but there was coolant sitting on the water pump, and the hose was wet around the clamp.... I brake cleaned everything off, took it for a rip and sure enough it was wet again after.

Mine does that too ,if its not real bad i would not worry about it.but yu can check to see how much slack you have in yur chain. It maybe too much.back the bolt off and hand tighen and then back it off a little, and tighten nut. Mine also does it when i stop real fast on the brakes and start again. Its in the clutching. But ive torn into to them more than once and found nothing. I have the derlin washers in too. It may be the rollers as they will get worn out.

I think the clunking noise you are talking about is in the driven clutch. The Team helixes have a notch in them in order for the reverse to work. When you switch directions you are hearing the rollers moving into or out of the notch.Braking hard will also cause the same thing.

thanks for the tips guys, chain was just tensioned... so thats not it, does sound like it is comming from the clutch side, I will have to pull the secondary off when I get time and look in to it. Its not bad at all, and I try to avoid using reverse as much as possible anyways, I will probably just wait until it starts to annoy me more, lol. Thanks again.
